This Palm-Sized Super Nintendo Has Us Dreaming of an Official SNES Mini

One man got tired of waiting for a SNES mini and just built his own.

Not only is the Super Nintendo arguably the greatest system ever made (and home to more than a few underrated classics), but now, thanks to one intrepid inventor by the name of Hugo Dorison, it's even possible to carry one in your pocket.

Yes, friends, prepare to have your mind blown by this making-of video that shows how the smallest functional SNES ever made came into existence:

In case you aren't able to watch that video, or are otherwise unable to comprehend what you just saw, Mr. Dorison has, indeed, built a fully-functional Super Nintendo that can fit into the palm of your hand. The system itself is made of clay and modeling paint and has been designed to resemble not the SNES as we necessarily know it, but rather a miniaturized interpretation of that classic system.

The really fascinating aspect of this design, however, is its functionality. If nothing else, this miniature SNES really does emphasize how far along video game technology has come along, as Dorison was able to use a simple Raspberry Pi Zero chipset, along with a couple of small USB hubs, to completely replicate the power and capabilities of the system's original retail model. There's nothing more bizarre than watching Super Mario World run on a device that looks like something your grandma might have kept tucked away on a living room shelf and repeatedly called a "knick-knack."

Much like those knick-knacks, you're going to have to settle for merely looking at this miniaturized SNES as opposed to actually playing with it, as a mountain of legal issues prevents Dorison from releasing these to the public. Of course, considering how much hype the NES Mini is getting, perhaps we won't have to wait too long for Nintendo to release an official SNES Mini of their own design.
