Fans will be able to play as one of the game's most capable warriors early next year.
If you're like most of the civilized gaming world and can't get enough Shovel Knight, you'll be thrilled to hear that the second of the game's three promised side-story expansions now has a release date.
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is now set to be released sometime in the Spring of 2017. The project was first announced as a stretch goal for the original Shovel Knight crowdfunding campaign and is the second of three such expansions that developer Yacht Club Games currently intends to release. The first expansion, Plague of Shadows, allowed players to experience the world of Shovel Knight as the mysterious Plague Knight and participate in an epic quest to defeat that goody-two-shoes garden tool wielding protagonist once and for all.
Specter of Torment is based on a similar concept. Rather than play as the Plague Knight, this upcoming expansion will allow you to take on the role of the deadly Specter Knight who is a far more versatile warrior than even a fully-upgraded Shovel Knight. Yacht Club Games has provided a full preview of everything you'll be able to do as Specter Knight in this upcoming game, but, generally speaking, Specter's move set revolves around his quick strike ability which can both take enemies down in relatively short order and be used to move through levels at a blazing speed.
Yacht Club Games is also promising that Specter of Torment will feature even more new content than Plague of Shadows, but they're not revealing everything that the expansion will contain at this time. However, much like the previous add-on, Specter of Tormentwill be made available to all Shovel Knight owners free of charge.
There is no further information about Shovel Knight's third expansion, based on the character King Knight, available at this time.
