Tiny Metal is a "spiritual successor" to the classic Advance Wars strategy series, and it's on Kickstarter now...

With their adorably quirky presentation and engrossing gameplay, the Advance Warsgames were among the best tactical games available on a handheld. Sadly, Nintendo hasn't shown any sign of continuing Advance Wars on the 3DS, so here's a team of Japanese developers to bring us Tiny Metal - a turn-based strategy game very much in the spirit of Advance Wars' simple yet absorbing design.
Currently seeking $50,000 on Kickstarter, Tiny Metalis already in reasonable shape - there's even a prototype demo to try out on the campaign page - but the developers say they're using the additional funds to make their game "even better." Tiny Metal has a similarly chunky, cartoony design to Advance Wars, with toy-like planes doing battle with dinky tanks.
The most obvious way Tiny Metal differs from the games it emulates is that, at present, it's PC only - there are stretch goals for Mac and Linus but no clear plans to develop the title for handheld devices. A shame, given its inspiration's origins.
Nevertheless, Tiny Wars looks like a promising little game already, so if you've fond memories of the Advance Wars games, the demo's well worth giving a try.
