Prospective PlayStation VR owners looking for that one special scary game to celebrate Halloween may want to check out the recently unveiled launch trailer for developer Tangenelmen's frighteningly promising title Here They Lie.

Tangentlemen's co-creative director Cory Davis recently took to the PlayStation blog to elaborate on the intent of this VR game that has been garnering attention since its unveiling at E3 2016. Back then, people didn't know much more about Here They Lie other than the fact that it was a creepy looking game that was likely going to lead to some sweaty VR goggles when it was released.

Thanks to the latest update, we now know that Here They Lie is a game that is just as interested in paranoia as it is in outright fear. Davis outlines a creative scenario for the title in which the "line between reality and madness is wearing thin." That idea of vanishing sanity is echoed by the game's trailer, which seems to be narrated by the (or one of the) game's protagonist, who speaks in vague riddles regarding her collapsing mental state and the horrors of her world.

Like many VR horror titles, the focus here seems to be on psychological horror as opposed to action-based horror gaming. Here They Lie manages to distinguish itself from the "Boo!" jump scare crowd of VR games by presenting a much more methodical story that takes advantage of uncertainty. The game also exhibits a fascinating color scheme in which grays, browns, and blacks are occasionally interrupted by incredible bursts of color that seem to identify key characters and moments.

Here They Liewill be available for PlayStation VR on Oct. 13.
