Update 1 - 10.13.2016

Obsidian confirmed that their upcoming RPG Tyranny will be released on November 10th and is currently available to pre-order on Steam via three separate editions. This announcement comes with a snazzy new trailer that you can enjoy below:

Original Story: 09.23.16

Obsidian have rightfully earned their reputation as one of the greatest purveyors of hardcore RPG experiences in all of gaming due to their years of churning out the kind of unique experiences that genre fans crave.

The studio's latest project, Tyranny, may just be their most ambitious yet as it will try to do what so many other games before it have failed to: truly capture the feeling of playing a bad guy in a video game. If the team's latest developer diary is any indication, Obsidian may be on the cusp of pulling off something really special.

Take a look:

This particular diary focuses on the art of Tyranny, which will play a major role in creating a convincing universe where evil has won and good is little more than a lingering notion relegated to the outskirts of society. Tyranny's art style shares similarities with previous Obsidian efforts (most notably, the recent Pillars of Eternity), but you certainly can see where the developers have decided to implement subtle nods that one of their RPG worlds have been overrun by evil and that the world that is left is one that would have never quite come to pass under any other circumstances.

For those that are unfamiliar, Tyranny begins shortly after the very evil Kyros the Overlord has vanquished his remaining foes. Now that the war is over, Kyros and his army are trying to find their place in the world as well as make sure that nobody rises up against them. You start the game as one of Kyros' lieutenants, who has been sent out into the world to enforce his will.

Tyranny does not currently have a release date, but is still expected to debut on PC and Mac before the end of the year.
