Blizzard's Tom Chilton is ready to queue into new adventures.

After 12-years of service, Tom Chilton is stepping away from World of Warcraft.
Chilton previously served as the director and senior designer for World of Warcraft. He is considered to be one of the fathers of the most popular MMO ever created, but, according to Chilton's blog post, he feels that it's time to move on.
"For me, Legion has been more than just another expansion, though—it’s the culmination of more than a decade of work with one of the best development teams I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of," said Chilton. "And it’s with a mix of excitement, sadness, and gratitude that I’m saying farewell to the WoW team and moving on to a new adventure within Blizzard."
The nature of that new adventure has peaked the interests of Blizzard fans everywhere. Aside from a brief statement towards the end of Chilton's departure message in which he states that "My personal journey working on WoW as Game Director is at an end, but my journey with Blizzard isn’t. I’ll still be here, but will be focusing on another project within the company," Chilton makes no specific reference to what he will now be working on.
As for World of Warcraft, Chilton assures fans that it will still be in good hands. Specifically, it will be in the hands of Ion Hazzikostas who will now serve as Game Director for World of Warcraft moving forward.
Still, this marks the end of an era for World of Warcraft. As he notes in his farewell message, Chilton has been with World of Warcraft since there were 60 people working on the game and some players were still using dial-up connections. He's contributed as much to the title as anyone, and it will certainly be interesting to see where WoW goes from here now that he is gone.
