It's a labor of love that is well worth your time.

As anyone who has ever cooked a meal for a family knows, sometimes hours of work doesn't amount to more than minutes of consumption.
Ben Manswell is a Doom fan that recently proved this same philosophy translates to video games. For the past 12 years, Manswell has been working on a mod for the now 22-year old Doom II. That level of dedication isn't unheard of in the modding community, even for older games, but the big difference between those mods and Manswell's is the length of the final product. In fact, you can probably beat his Foursite expansion in less than a few hours.
Actually, if you're particularly pressed for time, you can just watch the creator's YouTube playthrough of the mod which lasts just over an hour:
On the ModDB page where this mod is available for download, Manswell describes his creation as a "High concept 4-in-1 singleplayer map for Doom 2. Four miniature maps connected by a single hub corridor, each with its own theme and playstyle. Built in vanilla Doom 2 over 13 months, this is a labor of love for those who relish the classic Doom 2 experience. No advanced source-port features or enhancements, except pushing the Doom 2 map format to its limits."
Although Manswell admits to starting and stopping the project over the course of several years (the total estimated work time is believed to be around 300 hours), he really has pushed the idea of a Doom map to its limits with Foursite. Rather than present a nearly endless wave of enemies, this particular mod focuses on environmental storytelling. Navigating your way from section to section will require a level of thought that Doom doesn't always ask of its players and each section serves to tell the piece of an overall story. The general structure of the level is fascinating from a technical perspective as well.
Kudos to Manswell for sticking with his project. Here's hoping those who play it at least offer to do the dishes.
