Delta Force, Joint Operations, and other classic military franchises will all live on.
Earlier this year, we reported that developer Nordic was rebranding as THQ Nordic as part of their efforts to renew several popular THQ properties. Now, it appears that the developer is expanding their creative catalog beyond those titles leftover by the now defunct THQ.
THQ Nordic has announced that they have completed an asset purchase agreement with NovaLogic Inc. This agreement includes the rights to nearly every creative asset that NovaLogic possessed including several game franchises such as Delta Force, F-22, and Joint Operations.
John Garcia, CEO and founder of NovaLogic, released the following statement regarding the acquisition:
"After 30 years of creating ground breaking Computer and Video Games we are proud to pass the baton to THQ Nordic. As individuals, they are enthusiastic gamers and as a company have shown the agility and acumen needed to propel our industry towards a much-needed reset. We are happy to see the franchises we created in such capable hands."
For their part, THQ Nordic praised NovaLogic's ability to create compelling "military simulations and military-themed multiplayer shooters." They reaffirm their commitment to continuing dormant properties and intend to continue expanding their portfolio.
NovaLogic had not officially ceased operations prior to the reveal of this agreement, but they had not released a significant title in years. Most of their recent efforts have involved repackaging old franchises into collector's editions. The studio's most notable release was, arguably, the console version of Delta Force: Black Hawk Down which was capable of supporting a then record 50 players in a single, console multiplayer match. Many of their titles are notable for their attempts to recreate realistic military combat. This has made the developer, and their properties, a favorite amongst genre enthusiasts.
