Star Wars Battlefront 2 Release Date
EA CFO Black Jorgensen has narrowed down the release window for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2, which we already knew would be out in 2017. According to a recent EA earnings call that was released on Nov. 1, when asked when the next Battlefront game would arrive, Jorgensen responded, "a year from now." That seems to indicate that Star Wars Battlefront 2 will arrive in Fall 2017.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Details
In an interview with PC Gamer, Star Wars Battlefrontdirector Niklas Fegraeus opened up about the future of 2015's Star Wars Battlefront and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2. As we had previously reported, that future will include the upcoming addition of a skirmish mode that will finally allow Battlefront fans to play the game offline against bots across various difficulty modes.
According to Fegraeus, EA DICE is well aware of the demand surrounding such a mode.
“It's something the fans have been talking about for a very long time,” said Fegraeus. “It's been on the forums, it's one of the most requested things, to play offline in our big modes. And that's what Skirmish is about."
He also commented on the new mode's AI settings by making the surprising revelation that even he "cannot beat Fighter Squadron on the hardest (difficulty).” Fegraeus noted that the team felt the new offline mode should present a unique challenge on the highest difficulty setting, which is why the difficulty was cranked up so high.
On the matter of whether or not fans can expect this mode to be available for Battlefront 2, Fegraeus said that the team is not ready to comment on the specifics of a skirmish mode equivalent for Battlefront 2 at this time. However, he did mention that EA DICE will be bringing a lot of the things that they learned on Battlefront over to Battlefront 2. This, coupled with the previous reveal that another EA studio, Motive, is working on a major new addition to the next Battlefront game, has some speculating that Battlefront 2 is not likely to launch without an offline single-player option.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Confirmed
Electronic Arts confirmed in an earnings call that the company is indeed working on a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront that will arrive in 2017. The publisher had previously teased that it planned to develop multiple Battlefrontsequels. This comes as no surprise since the first game has already shipped more than 14 million copies.
Said EA CFO Blake Jorgensen that Battlefront 2 will feature "bigger and better worlds" and that the game will have content based on the "new movies." He didn't mention any specific movies by name, but it's a safe assumption that we will at least see some The Force Awakens content in the sequel.
Jorgensen also mentioned EA's plan to release a new Star Warsgame every year for the next three to four years. Other EA studios currently working on Star Wars games include BioWare, Respawn Entertainment, Capital Games, Motive, and Visceral Games. Jorgensen mentioned that Visceral's game will also arrive by 2017, but he didn't go into further details.
