Original Story:
According to information revealed as part of the SAG-AFTRA voice actor union strike, Telltale Games is working on an adaptation of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
The SAG-AFTRA union released a list of video games that will and won't be affected by the ongoing strike. Among the many names included on the non-struck list, some of which are clearly code names or project titles, is a reference to an untitled Marvel project named Blue Harvest that is listed as the property of O'Farrell Enterprises, LLC. That LLC appears to be a reference to Darragh O'Farrell who serves as the voice over producer for many Telltale games.
Where does Guardians of the Galaxy fit into this? Well, the original version of this list didn't make reference to an untitled Marvel project but rather explicitly listed Guardians of the Galaxy: The Video Game as the property of O'Farrell Enterprises. The fact that this list was updated since then seems to confirm that Telltale is preparing to announce an adaptation of the Marvel series. At present, the popular theory is that they will announce this game sometime before the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, most likely at the VGAs.
In fact, Marvel and Telltale announced that they had entered a collaborative agreement in 2015 and, at the time, speculated that the first game released as part of this partnership would debut in 2017.
The language used in that release certainly suggests that there are more Marvel/Telltale games to come, but Guardians of the Galaxy feels like the perfect start to this collaboration. As is the case with many Telltale adaptations, it's likely that this game will be separate in many ways from the events of the film and comics. If that does prove to be the case, there is plenty of creative room for Telltale to explore this colorful world filled with unique characters and a general sense of humor that the studio has proven to excel at in the past.
