Marvel vs. Capcom may only be the first leg of the studio's development reunion tour.

Perhaps finally realizing that nostalgia among gamers is as lucrative as it is plentiful, Capcom has decided to start reviving some of its dormant franchises.
Following their showing at PSX, the studio released an official statement regarding the return of the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise. Buried among the self-congratulations and basic information was an intriguing little glimpse into the future.
"In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP," reads the statement. "Beginning with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents."
Given that Capcom has kept franchises such as Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evilalive and well over recent years, their promise of renewed revitalization efforts initially reads as a curious one. However, you have to consider that there are many, many once prominent Capcom franchises that have been mysteriously absent over the last 10+ years.
While Marvel vs. Capcom is arguably the biggest name on such a list, properties such as Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Power Stone, Onimusha, Dino Crisis, Rival Schools, Final Fight, Killer 7, and Remember Me are all prime candidates for a revival for one reason or another. Indeed, there are few game studios in the world which can lay claim to as many promising dormant franchises as Capcom can.
Sadly, Capcom did not elaborate regarding which of these series might be set for a comeback. Considering their promise to release these revivals alongside staple titles, however, it's likely that we'll be seeing some of them in 2017.
