Everything you need to know about Destiny 2, including release date, latest news, rumors, and more!

Destiny 2 Release Date
Destiny 2 will arrive in 2017, according to Bungie and Activision. No consoles have been confirmed, but it's safe to say that this sequel will arrive to PS4 and XBO.
Destiny 2 Details
Developer Bungie has been hinting that the upcoming Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron, is going to be the last major content release for the game prior to 2017's Destiny 2, and now it appears that they are indeed shifting their focus towards the future of the franchise.
During an investor's call, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg noted that "The majority of the team at Bungie is actually focused entirely on creating Destiny 2." Unfortunately, he did not provide any further statements regarding the current development status of the game beyond stating that we should still expect to see Destiny 2 sometime in 2017.
So what does that mean for Destiny? Well, given that Bungie has never really confirmed that Rise of Iron is indeed going to be the final expansion for Destiny, and Hirshberg did note that Rise of Iron is currently outselling Taken King in the pre-order stage, it's a bit too early to say with certainty that the original game will not see additional content releases prior to the release of Destiny 2 or even shortly thereafter. However, if it is indeed true that most of Bungie is focused on Destiny 2, then it's doubtful that another full-fledged expansion for the game is currently on the developer's roadmap.
Still, Rise of Iron is looking like it might be in a position to set-up the future of Destiny quite well and might also end up serving as a bit of a test for certain Destiny 2 gameplay concepts based on the expansion's reception.
Destiny 2 Rumors
As development on the original Destiny comes to an end in the coming months, eyes now shift to Destiny 2. Unsurprisingly, there are already plenty of rumors surrounding the sequel.
One of the rumors suggests that Destiny 2 will come to PC. The first game was exclusive to consoles, but Bungie will reportedly open up the experience for PC gamers.
Kotaku also reports that Bungie is aiming to make Destiny 2 a brand new experience. Bungie wants this game to feel like a "proper sequel, even if that means leaving old planets, characters, and activities behind."
Sources told Kotaku that the jump from original to sequel can be compared to the transition between Diablo and Diablo 2, which took the first game's gameplay but abandoned characters and content from the original. It hasn't been decided if players will be able to transfer over their characters from the first game.
“D2 is a completely different game,” said one source. “The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things.”
There's also reportedly a new activity mode in the sequel called "play-in destinations," which will make planets way more populated, with quests, towns, and outposts that will be more interesting than the current Patrol missions.
Reportedly helping with development is Activision-owned studio Vicarious Visions, High Moon, and other studios.
