Crackdown 3 Release Date

Crackdown 3is coming in 2017. The game will arrive to XBO and PC.

Appearing on the Extra Life podcast, Microsoft Studios art director Dave Johnson revealed that Reagent Games is shooting for a holiday 2017 release "or earlier" for Crackdown 3.

The game was delayed to 2017 back in July 2016. Said Reagent Games creative director David Jones about the delay: "Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible, and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal."

Speaking to Game Informer, Microsoft Studios general manager Shannon Loftis explained that the campaign would just not be ready in time for the original 2016 release window.

Development has been going incredibly well. I’ve actually been playing a ton of it. To be honest, because we obviously have this Crackdown Online mode and then we also have the traditional Crackdown campaign, which has multiplayer online. But we want to launch our online beta so that it’s not too far in advance of the complete campaign. It’s actually the campaign that we’re doubling down on now. We’ve got internal play sessions every week for Crackdown Online. We’re starting now to get the campaign in. Building these open world games is both challenging and a blast, because you have to build all of the systems that interact together. Before you get to the point where you can actually experience what the game feels like and can start building your missions and telling your stories.

Loftis also teased the campaign mode's ambitious scope, which is undoubtedly a big reason Crackdown 3 won't be on shelves this year:

So the Crackdown campaign is definitely the most fully featured campaign we’ve ever done. It’s basically running a sim on top of the traditional Crackdown environment. We created this thing called a ‘hate table.’ Depending on what you choose to destroy in the environment, there will be massive, big reactions all over the city. Gangs will get together against you. This is the first time we’ve ever had something like that. It’s just starting to come online. We have lots of time to put together our missions. I don’t like letting gamers down and asking them to wait, but I’m also kind of proud of giving developers the time they need.

The game is coming to XBO and PC, and will be part of the Play Anywhere program, which allow players to buy one copy of the game for both Xbox One and Windows 10 play.

Crackdown 3 Trailer

At Gamescom 2015, Microsoft unveiled the first gameplay footage of the game, showing us that the franchise hasn't changed too much. The same arcade-y feel of the original is still very much a part of this installment.

Of note is the destructible environments. Crackdown 3 is boasting more chaos and destruction than we've ever seen in a game. Perhaps only Battlefield can't top the explosions we just saw on the Gamescom stage.

IGN also posted 17 minutes of gameplay onto their YouTube channel. The footage has some commentary from Crackdown creator Dave Jones. Here it is:

Crackdown 3 was first unveiled at E3 2014. It was just known as Crackdown then. Here's the reveal trailer:
