Splatoon 2 Latest News

Nintendo has revealed a new map for Splatoon 2 via the game's Japanese Twitter account

According to a translation by Siliconera, the level appears to be called either Fujitsubo Sports Club or Barnacles Sports Club - they're likely regional names - and takes place in a massive gym area complete with climbing wall, equipment, and a swimming pool.

There aren't many details available at the moment regarding this new map, but the screenshot does seem to indicate that you will be able to scale the rock climb walls and mark them as your team's territory.

Splatoon 2 Release Date

Splatoon 2 is expected to release sometime in Summer 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.

Splatoon 2 Trailers

Despite previous rumors that suggested the Nintendo Switch version of Splatoon would only be an upgraded version of the original title, Nintendo has now confirmed that the Splatoon footage shown during the Switch's reveal trailer is from Splatoon 2

According to the well-dressed scientist (warning: may not actually be a scientist) who took the stage after the above trailer was shown, Splatoon 2 is going to make a few modifications to the original experience.

First off, Splatoon 2 will be playable across all three of the Nintendo Switch's console options. That means you can play it on your TV, on the Switch's built-in screen, or as a mobile title. Regardless of how you play, the big news is that Splatoon 2 will finally allow people in the same room to participate in proper competitive Splatoon matches. The footage shown even indicated that multiple consoles will be able to interact wirelessly for local multiplayer parties.

As for what's new in the game itself, most of the updates appear to be cosmetic thus far. The visuals look a hair sharper overall which made it that much easier to appreciate the new character modification options available. Beyond that, we were afforded a brief glimpse at some of the game's new weapons which so far include a paint-spewing rain cloud, an artillery style bazooka, and a pair of dual pistols capable of doubling as speed boosts.

Some have observed that Nintendo seems to be emphasizing the competitive gaming potential of the next Splatoon game, but, at the moment at least, we're just happy to see that they're expanding the accessibility of one of 2015's best multiplayer experiences.
