Spike's re-branded game awards, VGX, aired this weekend, and here are some of the best trailers...

Although the general appreciation of Spike TV's gaming award is often mixed, being the source of much internet hatred, there's one thing the show always delivers, regardless of your opinion of it, and that's exclusives and new game reveals. This year was no different, and we got some demonstrations of some big name titles, as well as one or two major reveals.

As to be expected, the show featured more footage and coverage of known triple-A titles like Titanfall, Thief, The Witcher 3, Destiny and The Division, but it also focused on some new surprises. These included Telltale's two new projects, A Game of Thrones series, and Tales From the Borderlands, which sees the episodic developer team up with Gearbox to bring more depth to the world of Pandora.

However, the game many are saying stole the show (and I can't say I disagree) was No Man's Sky. A new next-gen title from Hello Games (of Joe Danger fame). To describe this as an open world title would do it a disservice, as the game features a procedurally generated universe. That's right, a universe. You can seamlessly go from under water, to land, into a ship and fly out of orbit into space. From there you can visit any number of planets and explore to your heart's content. At least, that's what we're promised, and if the trailer is anything to go by, this could be big.

Nintendo's showing at the show has been much talked about, and not in a good way. Promising a big reveal, the only game shown was Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (which will release in the US on February 21, 2014), along with a new character, Cranky Kong, and that was it. Many were hoping for Metroid or Zelda, but it was not to be.

Of course, the VGX is also an awards show, and here are the winners of this year's trophies.
