A new Nintendo Digital Event and Super Smash Bros. Invitational Tournament are all on tap for this year’s big conference.

It’s becoming more and more apparent in recent years that Nintendo is a company who isn’t afraid to play by their own rules. Last year many fans were a bit surprised, to say the least, when Nintendo decided to forgo a traditional E3 presentation in favor of a remote video presentation instead.

Well now Nintendo has just outlined their upcoming plans for E3 2014, which will be comprised of four key components. The first experience will be a Super Smash Bros. Invitational Tournament, where 16 of the best Super Smash Bros. players will get a chance to compete in front of thousands of spectators at the NOKIA Theatre: a move that only makes sense, given that we’ll be getting two brand-spanking new Smash Bros. games this year.

In keeping up with the Super Smash Bros. takeover, Nintendo’s ongoing partnership with retail chain Best Buy will be letting players get their very first taste of the upcoming Wii U version of the game at select Best Buy locations around the world. That’s right, now you don’t even need to fly all the way out to Los Angeles to get your hands on the highly anticipated new brawler.

When it comes to talking about the other upcoming games for the rest of 2014 and beyond, Nintendo will be building off of last year’s Nintendo Direct E3 presentation with another brand new media conference called the Nintendo Digital Event. The “new kind of video program” will be your number one source for all the new Nintendo game announcements that we’ve all been craving, and it is currently scheduled to broadcast live on Tuesday, June 10, at 9 a.m. PT.

And finally, the Nintendo Treehouse product development department will also be live-streaming brand new game demos directly from the Nintendo booth throughout the entirety of E3.

So there you have it: another unconventional, though very much innovative showing is in store for Nintendo at E3 2014. What do you think about the company’s game plan? And what new games do you want to see announced at the Nintendo Digital Event?
