The developer needs a few extra months to make sure that all of the game’s innovations are really, well, innovative.

Techland has announced today a difficult decision to delay the release of their upcoming first-person survival horror game, Dying Light. Coming from the same developer who brought us Dead Island, the new freeform zombie game was originally supposed to come out later this year, but now the delay has pushed back Dying Light into February 2015.

As the Dying Light team explains in their official announcement, the decision to delay the game was ultimately made in order to ensure the utmost quality of the new innovations that they’ll be bringing to the open world genre at large:

“We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early. This quality-focused thinking underlines all our development choices and we hope you share our belief that the gameplay must always come first.”

Techland is also hard at work on the fiery action-RPG Hellraid, which is slated for release sometime in 2015 as well. Dying Light will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in February 2015, and the developer has confirmed that a playable build will be available at this year’s E3.
