Here's your first look at Insomniac Games' latest adventure, Sunset Overdrive...
Remember how much you loved the original Spyro and Rachet & Clankgames? And do you recall how bummed you were that the same developer, Burbank-based Insomniac Games, subsequently released titles like Resistance, Fuseand Outernauts that left you (and some folks around the Den of Geek offices) cold due to their lack of innovation and excitement? Well, Insomniac is back, and hoping to recapture some of its past critical and financial glory with Sunset Overdrive. Due out later this year, the Xbox One exclusive chronicles what happens when a city's residents are turned into mutated monsters after imbibing a new energy drink. Cool. It's a fun premise to be sure, but will the gameplay live up to the potential?
Kotaku was given a chance to get hands on with Sunset Overdrive at Insomniac's studio, and their ensuing experiences with the game and its creators paint a portrait of a fascinating open world shooter that might just be the most entertaining pop culture apocalypse since George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. This looks like a goofy good time set against the backdrop of the end of the world. So will this be the gaming equivalent of Night of the Comet? Oh man, do we hope so. Consider us stoked, and expect much more news about Sunset Overdriveleading up to its release.
