"The Joker is dead, dead, dead, dead, dead." And more on the Batman: Arkham Knight story...

"The Joker is dead, dead, dead, dead, dead," Sefton Hill, game director of Batman: Arkham Knight, told Game Informer in a video interview. According to Hill, there won't be any cheap tricks on Rocksteady's part. There are no such things as comic book deaths in the Arkham universe. The Joker died in Arkham City, so he will not return in Arkham Knight:

Gotham City is a very different place a year after the events of Arkham City. The crime rate is way down, and Batman is really at the top of his power. That doesn't fair well with supervillains such as Two-Face, Penguin, Scarecrow, and the mysterious Arkham Knight -- who is a villain created for the game's final arc, which Hill says wil have a very explosive end. The villains and gangs of Gotham City take to the streets, as they launch a full-scale assault on the city. The good people of Gotham have been evacuated, and it's up to Batman, Oracle, and Commissioner Gordon to save the city once more.

The game will take place on a single night, in an attempt to take down the Caped Crusader once and for all. Much like in Arkham Origins, the criminals have arrived to reclaim their city and kill the Bat. Hill stressed that Gotham is fully occupied by baddies, and Batman will have quite the challenge ridding the streets of danger. He will be pushed to his limits in this final installment of Rocksteady's Batman Arkham trilogy.
