What if a game took place in the arctic, and instead of having to worry about your health, you're concerned about your body heat? Freezing to death sounds like a horrible way to go, doesn't it? Yes. Yes it does.
That's why 505 Games chose to build a game around surviving the horrors of a frozen wasteland. In Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason, your task is not only to survive the cold, but also to uncover the mysteries of a transformed abandoned ship containing frozen mutated undead crewmates.
The main character, Alexander Nesterov, uncovers the mystery by living through memories of other characters. The story slowly unravels as you progress through the levels of the frozen ship.
But what made Cryostasis terrifying is its many psychological scares. You're frozen and you're time traveling through people's memories, forcing you to live through terrors that happened in someone else's past.
At the time, it was a completely fresh idea, and although the game had quite a few technical flaws, Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason worked quite well. So if you're like me, and terrified of being frozen to death, check out this unique horror game.
