Mekazoo trailer: the speedy heir to Sonic's crown?

You play an athletic blue animal obsessed with leaping around, bouncing off walls and running along ceilings. You collect things. The music's bright and jolly. Sound familiar?

Mekazoo's creators, indie dev The Good Mood Creators, have cited Donkey Kong Countryand Super Mario World as influences when creating their platformer. But for us, the turn of speed, mechanical creatures and flowing level design are more reminiscent of Sonic The Hedgehog.

Given the problems both the Sonicfranchise and Sega have been having of late - a woeful 2014 in the case of the former, downsizing in the case of the latter - could Mekazoobe the spiritual successor we've been patiently waiting for?

Mekazoohas a few unique mechanics of its own - including the ability to switch between mechanical animal characters as you rescue them - but the meat of the game looks akin to Sonic Colors, which for us was among that franchise's best games of the past few years. 

Mekazoowill be available for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC in the autumn.
