Tactical JRPG Fire Emblem's returning to the Nintendo 3DS next year. Here's the corking first trailer...
NewsIt says a lot about the popularity of handheld gaming in Japan that some of the very best JRPGs of recent years have come out on systems like the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.
The last Fire Emblem game, Awakening, released for the 3DS in Europe in 2013, offered a great mix of tactics, tough challenge and absorbing fantasy storytelling.
Thanks to last night's Nintendo Direct, we now know there's another Fire Emblem coming to the 3DS, this one offering a greater focus on player choice - "Whose path will you choose?" The trailer asks. "Is your destiny tied by your bloodline? Or is your fate bound by loyalty? You can only choose one path."
The new entry doesn't have a full title yet, but it does have a sumptuous-looking trailer, which mixes handsome animation with glimpses of in-game footage. To be honest, we'd happily watch an entire animated TV show set in the Fire Emblem world.
The bad news? The next Fire Emblem isn't out until 2016. We'll be sure to keep you posted on more information as we get it.
