EA's giving Need For Speed a right royal rebooting. To prove it, here's a new trailer and some high-octane footage from E3...

Fast cars. Shiny cars. Cars with spoilers. Cars with big wings. Classic cars. Green cars. Yes, there are a lot of cars in Need For Speed, EA's reboot of a driving series that feels as though it's been around since the invention of the microchip.

Under the aegis of Ghost Games, Need For Speed takes place in a sprawling where the sun never rises - all the better for the street lights to show off the detailed car models' sensuous curves. Well, that's the impression we get from the new trailer, anyway, which you can see below.

Beneath that, you'll find another video from E3, this one showing off Need For Speed's surprising use of full-motion video sequences, which I don't think we've seen in a game for years. The way the live-action footage blends into car customisation is quite impressive though, and the actual racing - all tail-happy turns and rain-slicked roads - looks arcadey and fun.

Need For Speed is out on the 3rd November for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
