A new video showing off The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes has emerged in the wake of E3. See it for yourself within...

Trailer

That Nintendo didn't show off anything from its next major Zeldagame at E3 was disappointing to say the least, but we have to say, the 3DS spin-off Tri Force Heroes looks like a lot of fun.

Taking its cue from the GameCube favourite, Four Swords Adventures, Tri Force Heroes is a three-player action game with an emphasis on dungeon crawling. You can get a better idea of the game's potential in a new gameplay video taken by Polygon, which shows how vital teamwork is to beating Tri Force Heroes' puzzles and bosses. Each area's cleverly designed to give each of the three characters a chance to use their individual weapons, while other moments require all three players to combine their strength to push a heavy block or defeat a boss.

There's something quite adorable about the game's new totem pole attack, where players can jump on top of each other to fight larger enemies on a more even footing.

Tri Force Heroes is directed by Hiromasa Shikata, who has great form in the Zelda series; he previously helmed the likes of Spirit Tracks and the wonderful A Link Between Worlds. Not everyone likes the "cartoon Link" style introduced in The Wind Waker, but we've always been partial to it - the cutesy, anime style certainly works well in handheld adventures such as this.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is due out later this year for Nintendo 3DS. Until then, here's that 15 minute gameplay video:
