We've known for some time that X-Wings and TIE Fighters would be controllable vehicles in Star Wars Battlefront, but now EA has revealed in a very short clip that one of the shooter's modes will be entirely focused on aerial combat.

The clip comes ahead of a more in-depth reveal (or so we hope) at Gamescom 2015. The teaser itself says we'll see more on Aug. 5, so we'll update this post accordingly when we see more.

Here's the clip:

The mode is called Fighter Squadron, and while little's known about it so far, EA has released a 12-second tease of what it could look like. In it, we see a Rebel A-Wing locked in a dogfight with a TIE Fighter on the planet Sullust. We see a brief switch to a first-person view, then a longer shot of the A-Wing doing a fancy barrel roll, where we can also see a TIE Interceptor in the background. Then we cut to a majestic shot of some X-Wings and... well, that's it really.

We can't help but be reminded of Factor 5's wonderful Rogue Squadronseries, which for an entire generation in the late 90s and early 00s, was the main way to join the Rebellion's fight against the Empire. Factor 5 shut down in 2008, four years after LucasArts decided to cancel the Rogue Squadron series during internal restructuring. One of the developer's last known projects was an unfinished Superman game for last-gen consoles. But that's a story for another day.

Star Wars Battlefront locks S-foils in attack position on Nov. 17.
