Update 02.02.16:
We've received official confirmation that Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is indeed coming on June 28 for pretty much every console imaginable. Here's a high-res version of the trailer, which is pretty much a parody of the first teaser of the film...
You can find way more details about the game below...
Original Story:
Let's face it, most of us would have been surprised if a Lego Star Wars game hadn't come out in the wake of The Force Awakens' two billion-dollar spree in cinemas. And true to form, here it comes - as confirmed by a page which appeared on the Xbox Store's website.
As developed by TT Games, the Lego videogame formula is familiar stuff by now: light platforming and shooting action coupled with the curiously addictive process of collecting bricks and building ships and props from the Star Wars franchise. The Xbox Store entry reveals that the Lego Force Awakens introduces extra content that "bridges the story gap" between Return Of The Jediand Episode VII. We're guessing we might see some more of the Battle of Jakku, as depicted in EA's Star Wars: Battlefront DLC, but TT Games might have some other surprises for us, too.
The entry also suggests that there'll be a greater emphasis on blaster battles and cover shooting, as well as multi-builds - models that can be stripped down to their component bricks and built up into something new and useful. From a visual standpoint, TT have clearly had fun recreating the world of the movie out of bricks - the detail in the screenshots is surprisingly gorgeous. Just look at the tiny flecks of sand banked up on the blockier edges of Rey's speeder. Lovely.
As well as the gallery of first-look images (which you can see by clicking on the image above these words) there's also a leaked trailer. This probably won't be around for long, so watch it while you can. It's essentially The Force Awakens' teaser trailer with added bricks and pratfalls, which is just how we like it.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out on June 28 for Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Atari Jaguar. We may have been lying about the last one.
