To promote their latest X-Men film, Fox has unleashed three familiar-looking online video games.
As impressive as the graphics and sound for today's gaming systems are, there is still a very specific sort of nostalgia conjured up by the arcade games of the 1980s. Think simplicity mixed with a splash of innocence and the novelty of newness.
In an inspired bit of marketing, Fox has just opened the doors to SpacePortArcade.com -- an online retro arcade that borrows its name from a very real, and sadly defunct, chain to help promote X-Men: Apocalypse's debut in theaters on May 27th. The site includes three move-themed games available for free online play: Mutant Conquest, a Pac-Manclone, the Robotron 2084-esque Revenge of Hero X, and the self-explanatory Mutant All-Stars Track & Field.
All of these suitably prep audiences for the movies 1980s setting, with the added bonus of giving people something to idle away the hours at work that doesn't actually involve doing anything work-related. Win-win! The cover art they created for each title is on point as well, take a look:

Even if the movie is terrible, at least these games provide some enjoyable nostalgic fun!
Chris Cummins recently saw a Ms. Pac-Man cocktail table machine that someone hacked to include a variety of other games, including his beloved Pooyan. It made him so excited that he didn't shut up about it for a week. Follow him on Twitter @bionicbigfoot and @scifiexplosion.
