The popular toys-to-life game will see two final releases through June before Disney Infinity ceases production.
Disney has announced this week that they will cease production on their popular toys-to-life game series, Disney Infinity. In an open letter on the status of the game, senior vice president and general manager for Disney Infinity John Blackburn confirmed the news and thanked players for their support over the years: “We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it.”
Although this chapter in the Disney storybook will be coming to a close soon, Disney Infinity players still have two final releases to look forward to. The first is comprised of three new characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass and is slated for a retail release later this month. After that, the series will conclude with a Finding Dory Play Set in June.
In a separate statement to IGN, Disney cites high development costs and a “lack of growth in the toys-to-life market” as being key factors working against the continuation of Disney Infinity’s “challenging business model.” The statement goes on to say that Disney will also be shuttering their internal studio that developed the game.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see how the end of Disney Infinity may affect other popular toys-to-life series such as Skylandersand Lego Dimensions.
