The first Assassin's Creed movie trailer with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard is here for your viewing pleasure!

If you’re like me, the first time you played Assassin’s Creed you were completely floored as you weaved your medieval hitman through the streets of ancient Jerusalem. The photorealistic light, the swift action and gore, and the parkour! It was like watching a movie! Clearly, many others thought so to, including Michael Fassbender.

Thus enter the Assassin’s Creed movie, which is right around the corner and sooner than you might think. Indeed, the hit video game is making the leap to the big screen, and unlike countless other attempts, this one has the mindful pedigree of its original creators, now in the form of the Ubisoft Motion Pictures production company, joining forces with 20th Century Fox to bring the beloved title to the screen. Also, more promisingly, Fassbender has partnered with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel on the project, which also includes Frank Marshall as producer, and Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, and Michael K. Williams as amongst the rest of its cast. This might just be one video game adaptation that has more than a fighting chance.

As glimpsed in the below trailer, Assassin’s Creed follows a wholly original character named Callum Lynch. Cal is convicted and set to die on death row when he is taken against his will by the evil Abstergo organization, which has dark designs for Cal: with the use of the Animus, they will force Cal to travel back via his DNA into the past, and walk in the shoes of his ancestor Aguilar, an Assassin living in 15th century Spain. It is a time of prejudice, superstition and hysteria (so not that different than now?) with the Spanish Inquisition in full swing. In other words, it’s the perfect time for an Assassin.

Assassin’s Creed is due out on theaters on Dec. 21. But if you want all the details you can possibly get right now, please click here to find our in-depth Assassin's Creed set visit report!
