The next chapter in the Elder Scrolls series is being developed, but it may be some time before you get your hands on it.
Although most Elder Scrolls fans assume that Bethesda will continue to develop games for their flagship franchise until the end of time, given how much the studio has expanded in recent years it's perfectly natural to wonder if anyone is currently working on the next Elder Scrolls title.
According to Bethesda Studios' Todd Howard, the answer to that question is "Yes." However, don't expect the game to release anytime soon.
In a post-E3 conference interview, Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI is indeed being worked on, but that the game is behind several other major projects at the moment and is not close to an estimated release date.
"I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology. How long is that going to take?', says Howard on the game's development process. "So it is something that's going to take a lot of time, what he have in mind for that game."
Howard later emphasized Bethesda's commitment to taking their time with the next Elder Scrolls game, which certainly makes sense given the sky-high expectations that typically accompanies each new entrant into the franchise.
While we're certainly as eager as you are to hear more details regarding the next Elder Scrolls title, as well as these other major projects that will precede it, take comfort in the fact that a remastered version of Skyrim will help fill the void until more information becomes available.
