Ever wanted to pilot an X-Wing? This may be your best chance.

While many people anticipated that VR would be on the minds of many of the industry's biggest names at E3 2016, nobody could have predicted the wave of new and exciting VR titles that Sony threw at us as part of their press conference.

Along with the reveal that the next Arkham game is going to make the transition over to VR, the most exciting piece of VR footage we saw at E3 may be this brief trailer that showcased the first major Star Wars VR game.

Have a look:

Just as the title suggests, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission is going to be single mission add-on to the Battlefront series that allows players to hop into the cockpit of an X-Wing and engage in a Star Wars-style dogfights. The game is being co-developed by Criterion and EA Dice, and will be free for any Playstation VR users that own a copy of Battlefront

The reveal trailer is a little light on specifics but, given the nature of the Battlefront series, it's safe to assume that this will not be a simulation title in the vein of the PC X-Wing titles or even the upcoming Star Trek: Bridge Crew. Instead, this appears to be an intense action game that spiritually feels closer to that newest Star Wars arcade game that aimed to recreate an elaborate cinematic experience via immersive elements.

The title is being hyped by Sony's John Koller as a "very special game" that they believe will show off the immersive potential of the VR experience. Criterion producer James Svensson doubled-down on this sentiment by suggesting that you will be "instantaneously transported from the comforts of your living room to an X-Wing cockpit in space" when you dive into this mission.

While more details would certainly be welcome regarding what this add-on is all about, suffice to say the mere premise of virtual reality Star Wars battles has an appeal of its own. Stay tuned for more information on this game as it becomes available.
