You won't have to wait long for more Lego Star Wars action, especially if you have a PS4.
Despite the inevitability of developer Traveller's Tales creating Lego games based on the Star Wars universe until the end of time, it was nonetheless enjoyable to see the series return at E3 via this cute trailer that showcases The Force Awakens playing out in a Lego world:
As you see in the trailer, the Lego Star Wars franchise's ability to convert the world of the films into a light-hearted adventure comprised entirely of Legos is well intact. The trailer also just confirms that the Star Wars music is indeed capable of giving the user goosebumps regardless of the context.
The surprising bit of this E3 announcement came at the end of the game's initial reveal as we learned that Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is not only scheduled for release on June 28th but that a demo of the game is available for download right now for PS4 users.
I dived into the demo earlier today and came away impressed with the effort on display. The demo starts shortly after the beginning of the film as we follow Rey and Finn trying to escape a Stormtrooper invasion with BB-8 in tow. The sequence has been greatly expanded from the one that we saw in the film and allows the developers to showcase a few of the game's new mechanics. For instance, you are now able to build multiple objects from the same series of bricks which is particularly useful when you are trying to solve puzzles that involve multiple characters.

For instance, you are now able to build multiple objects from the same series of bricks which is particularly useful when you are trying to solve puzzles that involve multiple characters. The first instance of this involved Finn swinging across a freshly made grappling switch then converting that switch to a device that BB-8 could activate to lower a platform which Rey can cross. Neat.
The action really kicks in shortly thereafter as Rey and Finn engage in a heated blaster battle with Stormtroopers before hopping in the Millenium Falcon. From here, the action turns into an on-rail shooter for a time before quickly changing to a more free-roaming battle that really puts you in that Star Wars mood.
The demo ends shortly thereafter but what is on display is enough to confirm that the franchise has not lost its ability to provide an amusing retelling of our favorite Star Wars stories. PS4 users interested in the game should most certainly download the demo now, while Xbox One fans will be able to do the same later today.
