Star Wars: The Old Republic fans will be able to get their hands on this mysterious new expansion before the end of the year.
It seems that there's something of a competition amongst creators of Star Wars gaming content regarding who can share the least information about their upcoming projects while still technically sharing information.
If so, then BioWare may have just won the secrecy cup for their recent unveiling of the next Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion.
According to the expansion's new website, the next chapter in Star Wars: The Old Republic will be titled Knights of the Eternal Throne (an admittedly fantastic name). This expansion is currently set to release sometime in the fall of 2016. Those wishing to receive more information about the game are also offered the chance to sign up for The Old Republic newsletter via its landing page.
This project represents the sixth expansion for the popular Star Wars MMO, which will celebrate its fifth anniversary later this year.
Beyond the brief glimpse offered by the expansion's website, this addition to the world of The Old Republic remains something of a mystery. The game's current tagline ("Choose Your Path to the Eternal Throne") does seem to suggest that it will revolve around the titular throne and perhaps offer an arching quest that will allow players to occupy it. As for what the Eternal Throne is, exactly, it is likely a reference to the Eternal Empire. The emperor of this faction is infamous in Star Wars lore for using his sizable fleet to battle both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire at once. This led to the Galactic Wars, which saw the entire galaxy succumb to war in a desperate bid for survival and power.
It would certainly be fascinating to see this period of Star Wars history captured via The Old Republic and even more fascinating to see if players will indeed have an opportunity to engage in a multi-faceted war that has the potential to really play up the game's alignment aspects.
