Love Stranger Things and LucasArts adventure games? Read on.
In an age of constant debate and dissenting opinions, it's been nothing short of a miracle that the Netflix series Stranger Things has seemingly united the voices of the internet. The show's loveable characters and captivating plot have certainly helped it achieve a fair amount of its considerable acclaim, but most of the praise for Stranger Things revolves around its striking use of '80s sci-fi and adventure conventions.
Appropriately, then, one studio has seen fit to pay tribute to Stranger Things via the one old-school genre capable of conveying the show's mysterious story and broad cast of characters; the point-and-click adventure.
Yes, developer Infamous Quests have gone ahead and made the Stranger Things adventure game that most of us only dreamed of as we binged on Netflix's latest hit. While the game's graphics are a bit closer to the '90s than the '80s, we'll let the historical inaccuracy of that upgrade slide in light of the way in which the game perfectly implements the universe of Stranger Things into the gameplay of titles like King's Quest and Monkey Island.
In this game, players control Chief Hooper as he investigates the woods following the disappearance of Will Byers. Sadly, as this is only a showcase piece for the concept, the game doesn't last longer than about 10-15 minutes and only requires players to find one critical clue before triggering the final sequence. That's more than enough time, however, for Infamous Quests to prove that they not only understand the kind of dialog, animations, and mechanics that make these games so beloved but the unique qualities of Stranger Things that have helped it achieve that status as well.
Rather than restart the show yet again, consider heading over to Itch.io where the development team have been kind of enough to provide a free download of this title for your temporary amusement.
