In an effort to address several ongoing issues, the developers have adjusted their release schedule.
In response to fan concerns regarding the current state of The Division, Ubisoft has decided to delay the game's second expansion pack.
Titled Survival, this expansion was set to release in September and promised to provide a unique survival scenario that would have challenged even the strongest of Division characters. Instead, Ubisoft has decided to push the release of the add-on back to sometime before the end of the year in order to focus on making improvements to the current, core Division experience.
"With Update 1.4 in the works, it has become clear with your feedback and our own observations that our priority should now be on improving the core gameplay experience," said Ubisoft in a blog post regarding this decision. "For this reason, we have made several adjustments to our development schedule."
The adjustments in question concern both the delay of the Survival expansion, and the expedited release of a new update for the game (Update 1.4) which will address several key issues with The Division that include general bug fixes, more relevant loot drops, modified enemy difficulty based on level, weapon balancing, PvP adjustments, and "quality of life" improvements that promise to address some of the community's minor frustrations with the current game.
The full notes for this upcoming patch are set to release on September 13th, while the updated release date for Survival has not been provided at this time. Neither update is currently expected to interrupt the release date of the game's final DLC, Last Stand, which is still set to debut in early 2017.
This is a drastic maneuver, but not one that is entirely shocking. Recent reports have suggested that The Division's player count has dropped by as much as 93% since the game's incredibly successful launch due to many of the issues that Ubisoft intends to address with the upcoming patch. It appears that Ubisoft is focusing more on appeasing the game's current fanbase before they release any additional paid content, which may very well be the right move given that they are hoping to get a lot more mileage out of this property before it's all said and done.
