A new, fan-made Sonic game is the best game starring the Hedgehog in years.
A new fan-made 3D game called Green Hill Paradise Act 2 is absolutely the Sonic game we deserve. Created by Daniel “SuperSonic68" Coyle and numerous other Hedgehog fans, the game looks like a paradise of speed, platforming, and gold coins. It certainly washes the bad taste of Sonic Boom from our mouths.

While the game is presented as a single level that can be completed in a few minutes, the true fun can be had by fully exploring the zone, finding all of its secrets, and collecting all of those coins. I, for one, really want to speed through that one tunnel, do a 1080 onto an incline, and speed into a loop.
Sonic the Hedgehog has always struggled to transition into 3D adventures. The essence of what made the 2D sidescrollers so great always seems to get lost in translation when it comes to 3D. Many would even say 3D has been the beginning of the end for the Blue Blur, who has been in a few poorly received games in the past few years.
Green Hill Paradise Act 2 gets it right, though, and you can download it now right here. It's definitely worth a playthrough, assuming Sega doesn't shut it down by tomorrow.
Sega is working on two new, official Sonic games at the moment, which will release in 2017. One is a 3D Sonic game currently titled Project Sonic. The other is Sonic Mania, which reimagines the first three Sonic game into one title.
