These adaptations won't be available until 2017.
Nintendo has announced that their mobile adaptations of Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem have been delayed until 2017.
"After the launch of Super Mario Run in December," reads the company's statement. "Nintendo plans to deliver its previously announced mobile device titles in the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem series before the end of March, 2017."
This is the first notable setback for Nintendo's mobile efforts which began with the release of Miitomo earlier this year. Nintendo and their developmental partners had not previously given any indication that these games may be facing a delay, but Nintendo did clarify their reasoning behind this move in a statement given to Polygon.
"Based on a variety of factors, we felt it was most appropriate for Super Mario Run to launch ahead of these other two apps," said Nintendo. "Our Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem titles for mobile will launch before the end of our fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2017."
The nature of those factors is not currently known, although there certainly is an argument to be made that Nintendo could be attempting to avoid oversaturation and may very well be interested in gauging the reaction of mobile gamers in terms of their approach to these franchises. Given that we are still unsure what types of games these adaptations will be (neither Pokemon GO or Super Mario Run is a strict adaptation of the source material), it's certainly possible that all parties involved want to use Super Mario Runas a test to help better understand what franchise fans want from these experiences.
Interestingly, Nintendo had previously stated that they were planning on releasing another mobile title before the end of the fiscal year, but now it seems that this mysterious additional project has been pushed past that time period. Once that and the recently delayed games do release, they are still expected to do so for iOS and Android, despite Super Mario Run's limited exclusivity deal on iOS.
