Daymare: 1998 Is A Tribute To The Horror Games of The '90s

When they were denied the right to remake Resident Evil 2, this team of developers created something even more sinister.

If you're still feeling a little disappointed that Invader Studios had to cancel that incredible looking Resident Evil 2 remake they were working on due to the fact that Capcom decided to make an official remake of the same game, perhaps it will please you to hear that the folks at Invader are now working on an IP that is very much in the style of Resident Evil 2

Officially, their new project Daymare: 1998 is being billed as a " hardcore survival horror experience inspired by the visual style and the atmosphere evoked by 1990's cult movies," but the game's reveal trailer makes it clear that the team still has Resident Evil 2 in their hearts and on their minds.

Much of what we know about this game comes from Invader Studio's Facebook page where the developers share a little information on what they've been up to since the cancellation of their last project and what this new game is all about. Sadly, it doesn't appear that Daymare is quite far along enough in development  for the team to start dropping specific details, but they do emphasize that the primary intent of their project is to take the survival horror genre "back to the '90s" in order to utilize certain time period twists.

One of those twists, at least according to the trailer, appears to be the capabilities of the game's protagonist who, unlike so many recent horror game main characters, looks like a professional operative who is able to defend themselves against a wide variety of mutated threats via the use of powerful weaponry. The combat, meanwhile, seems to borrow more from the Resident Evil 4 school of design as opposed to the series classic entrants. Actually, the action here appears to move a little smoother than it does in that classic title.

There's no word yet on a release date, but, at this point, we wouldn't be surprised if it somehow released before Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake.
