After years in development, it appears that Nioh is finally almost ready for release.

Update 1 - 09.13.16

It may have taken Team Ninja the better part of a decade to reach this point, but they've finally announced that Nioh will release worldwide on February 9, 2017.

You'll be forgiven for being a little cynical regarding any news concerning this game's release given how long it has been guarding the gates of development hell, but this is the first time in a while that Team Ninja has dared provided an official release date which may indicate the game is finally ready to make its debut.

Original Story - 12.08.15

Team Ninja's new samurai action RPG, Nioh, had been in development hell for more than a decade before it was re-introduced at last weekend's PSX. Originally announced as "Akira Kurosawa's Oni," the game is finally once again seeing the light of day under a new title and on a new platform. Nioh is coming exclusively to the PS4.

At PSX, Sony showed off the very first trailer for the game, which features a lot gameplay footage:

You may notice that this looks a lot like the Dark Souls series, but Team Ninja has been making the kind of challenging action RPG that makes you cry for many years. The Ninja Gaidenseries is a classic "throw your controller at your TV screen" example.

We don't know too much about Niohexcept that it follows the story of a samurai. Which is cool since samurai don't get a lot of attention in video games. Should be an interesting story angle.

No release date for this one yet, but we'll let you know when we hear more.
