While few people ever entertained the thought that there won't be any Pokemon games on the NX, Pokemon Company boss Tsunekazu Ishihara has put whatever fears did exist in regards to the franchise's future to rest by confirming that The Pokemon Company will indeed be making games for Nintendo's next system.

"The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device," said Ishihara in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. "We will make games for the NX."

Aside from the confirmation that there will be Pokemon games on the NX, the most interesting part of Ishihara's statement is that he seems to confirm that the NX will indeed be a hybrid mobile/home console. This feature has been rumored for weeks now due to insiders claiming that the Nintendo NX will be primarily designed as a mobile platform that can be plugged into a television. Additionally, the system will allegedly come with detachable controllers and will utilize cartridges for physical games as opposed to CDs.

Nintendo has not yet confirmed any of these rumors at this time.

As for Pokemon's upcoming NX appearance, it's going to be interesting to see if the NX's supposed mobile features finally convinces Nintendo and The Pokemon company to release a more traditional Pokemon game for a Nintendo system that can (at least somewhat) function as a home console. Previously, the two sides have refrained from doing so due, in part, to the fact that the Pokemon franchise remaining exclusive to Nintendo's mobile line helped raise the sale of those devices. Should the NX be Nintendo's attempt to combine the company's mobile and home console interests, it stands to reason that a traditional Pokemon game might cross the line.

There are also rumors that Nintendo may launch the NX with a new Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon game in tow, but neither Nintendo or any of the developers involved in those franchises have confirmed that will be the case.
