According to reports from CVG, Microsoft is planning to host a press conference at this year's Gamescom in Germany. The news comes as Microsoft has, apparently, notified the event's organisers and other third parties that it plans to attend.
At the time of writing, no details of the actual conference have been supplied, but it's a fairly safe bet that the company will use the time to try and repair the Xbox One's severely damaged reputation following a disastrous E3.
A Microsoft spokesperson stated, "We're excited to be back at Gamescom this year but we're not announcing any further details on our plans at this time. Please stay tuned for more details!"
Microsoft is usually not all that concerned with Gamescom, leaving the floor to the likes of Sony, but with so much distance between the Xbox One and PS4 to make up, this could be a very important event for the troubled Microsoft gaming division, which has seen former head, Don Mattrick leave for Zynga, and has already back-pedalled on the controversial DRM and pre-owned policies for the Xbox One.
Quite how well any conference will go down will have to be seen, but its already evident that the policy reversal has done little so far to sway those now heading to Sony. Maybe Microsoft can win back the hearts and minds of gamers in some way, but it's going to have to be good. Very good.
