New Power Rangers not peaking your interest? This 2D brawler may do the trick.

Prepare your nostalgia for overdrive as you view the reveal trailer for Bandai Namco's throwback Power Rangers game Power Rangers: Mega Battle.
Power Rangers: Mega Battle takes us back to the original era of Power Rangers (gen-one Power Rangers, if you will) and will allow players to choose between the Pink, Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black Rangers in order to do battle with the nasty Rita Repulsa and her band of interstellar monsters. The Green Ranger and ultra-villain Lord Zedd are also featured in this trailer, but their role in the game itself is unknown.
Mega Battle will be instantly familiar to anyone who played the SNES/Genesis Power Rangersgames as it follows the same basic beat 'em up gameplay formula featured in those titles. You pick a character, hop into some 2D worlds, lay waste to an army of Putty Patrollers, and eventually do battle with the large monsters that serve as the game's boss fights. You will also, at least in part, be required to form Megazord in order to beat the game's toughest foes.
The game draws most of its artistic and narrative inspirations from the show's first two seasons and will feature villains, levels, and plots previously contained in those initial episodes. So far, there doesn't appear to be any tie-ins to the upcoming Power Rangers film, as this is a pure throwback experience.
This title was rumored to exist earlier this year when an entry for it appeared on the European Rating Board but was only confirmed when Bandai Namco unveiled it at New York Comic Con. Bandai Namco will be fielding the publishing duties for this game, but it is actually the Peru-based Bamtang Games that will be developing the title. It is expected to release digitally in January 2017 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A PC release is also rumored, but unconfirmed at this time.
