As revealed during the 2016 Dev Days event, Valve will soon be adding native PlayStation 4 controller support to Steam.

Previously, Steam users wanting to play PC games using a PS4 controller needed to rely on third-party apps of various quality to actually do so. According to Valve engineer Jeff Bellinghausen, however, this will soon no longer be necessary as Valve has discovered how to incorporate full PS4 controller functionality into Steam. Apparently, the main problem with adding PS4 controller functionality before now was that Valve was unsure of how to make the controller's touchpad and gyro features function through their software. As it turns out, the API used for Valve's motion and touch-based Steam Controller actually took care of most of the work for them.

Bellinghausen also alluded to the possibility that Valve could go on to support a variety of third-party controllers but did not specify which controllers they are looking at incorporating or when the system updates that will make these controllers compatible will become available.

Elsewhere, Valve announced that they have partnered with Samsung in order to create a new line of TVs that will come equipped with Steam Link functionality. Steam Link is the device that allows gamers to stream their PC games to televisions via a network connection. This line of Samsung TVs would offer that same ability and wouldn't require Steam Link users to use the $49 physical device. This represents the second significant partnership Samsung's TV division have forged with a game studio, as earlier this year they announced that certain Samsung TVs will come with PlayStation Now streaming built-in.

There's no word on when this new line of televisions will make their retail debut.

Finally, Valve confirmed that they are working on a new controller for the HTC Vive. This controller will reportedly incorporate "grip" abilities, meaning that users will be able to grab in-game objects by making the appropriate motion with this controller in hand. Details are few and far between regarding the new controller, however, as Valve appears to be treating it as a functional prototype at this time.
