Double Fine has announced that they plan to publish developer Foam Sword's Kickstarter success Knights and Bikes.
If you haven't been following this game up until this point, be sure to check out the latest trailer below:
Knights and Bikesfollows the adventures of Nessa and Demelza on their "quest for the truth behind the medieval legends of Penfurzy, an island on the fast track to financial ruin and literal destruction." Players will be required to recruit a party, defeat baddies, and level up along the way.
It's being developed by two former Little Big Planet developers (Rex Crowle and Moo Yu) with assistance from composer Daniel Pemberton and "Audio Daredevil" Kenny Young. The developers cite games like Earthbound and The Secret of Mana as well as movies like The Goonies among their influences. Perhaps you're starting to see why such a project might appeal to the particular style of Duble Fine Productions.
That sentiment was echoed by Double Fine's Tim Schafer who said of the partnership "I’ll just say I love Knights, Bikes, Moo, and Rex, and that Double Fine is super happy to be presenting their amazing game, unless their quote was meh—in that case just make my quote the shrug emoticon."
The Knights and Bikes team are equally excited regarding the possibilities.
"I’ve spent so many hours plunging myself into the imaginative worlds that Double Fine has conjured, getting to know their intriguing characters inside and out," said developer Moo Yu on the acquisition. "In Knights and Bikes, I want players to feel that same connection and curiosity as they meet our cast of misfits and delve into the mysteries of the island of Penfurzy."
Knights and Bikes will be playable at the Day of the Devs event being held in San Francisco this weekend, but there is no official word on the game's release date beyond the April 2017 launch window that was offered during the game's Kickstarter campaign.
