Remember the classic Nintendo game Kid Icarus? In time for its 30th anniversary, a new video explores its origins and secrets...

In the pantheon of classic Nintendo characters, Kid Icarus ranks a few places behind such greats as Super Mario and Link, yet the winged hero's managed to ride an ever-changing landscape for 30 years.
Where such 80s videogame mascots as Alex Kidd and Monty Mole have sadly faded into obscurity, Kid Icarus has kept his profile up by making appearances in the Super Smash Brosseries - and, in 2012, he finally got his first solo outing in years: the 3D shooter Kid Icarus: Uprising.
A new video by Youtuber Gaijillionaire provides a timely and in-depth look at the Kid Icarus series' history, particularly the development of the 1986 original and its mythological underpinnings, as well as some of the secrets hidden with in it. What's with all the aubergines in the first game? Gaijillionaire explains all.
Like his other videos - like this one, about the origins of Super Mario Bros IIand Doki Doki Panic - this one has lots of information we've never encountered before. Along with original adverts from Kid Icarus' original Japanese release, it's a veritable treasure trove of nostalgia and obscure facts.
The video's also a reminder of how much Kid Icaruswas if you knew what you were doing; here's hoping Nintendo's working on another adventure for the character behind the scenes.
