Everything you need to know about Metal Gear Survive, including latest news, release date, trailers, and much more!

Metal Gear Survive is a very different type of Metal Gear game. Gone is the "Tactical Espionage Action" gameplay style ushered in by series creator Hideo Kojima. Instead, this game is a cooperative action-adventure game where players team up to fight a horde of zombies...

It's not as surprising a direction as you would think, if you consider that there have always been supernatural elements in the Metal Gear series. That said, Metal Gear Survive makes the supernatural it's main focus.

While the game isn't part of the Metal Gear Solid series, it does take place between the events of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. The trailer opens with the assault on Mother Base that put Big Boss in a coma. Those who don't die in the Mother Base attack travel through a wormhole to an alternate dimension where the survivors must fight off weird crystalline zombies ("living biological threats," according to Konami). Yes, that's a sentence I just wrote.

The game features four-player online co-op, although the game won't stray too far from the series' traditional stealth gameplay. New weaponry will also be introduced to combat creatures and lethal environments as well. Spears and crossbows will be two such weapons.

"Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements, but within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience," said Tomotada Tashiro, European President for Konami Digital Entertainment.

We previewed the game at E3 2017 and didn't really love this new take on the series. Hopefully, Konami has taken the time to fix the issues we found with the experience.

Here's everything else we know:

Metal Gear Survive Release Date

Metal Gear Survive is expected to release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on February 20, 2018.

Metal Gear Survive Trailer

There's a new video preview of Metal Gear Survive that provides quite a bit of new information about the game's campaign mode.

While this video makes it abundantly clear that this story is separate from MGS V's - it's more of a spin-off - it's also clear that the campaign will retain certain elements of that game. For instance, you'll still have to organize a base and gather supplies.

Actually, gathering supplies will be quite difficult as your base is surrounded by a poison cloud that requires you to wear an oxygen mask. When you run out of oxygen, you'll need to return to the base.

The campaign will offer a variety of main and side missions that reward players with various new items, crafting recipes, and survivors. Of course, the main gameplay seems to revolve around defending your base from attacks and ensuring that it can support itself even when you're out on a mission.

We have to admit that the game looks kind of interesting. If Survive didn't have the Metal Gear Solid name - and the baggage that goes along with it - it might actually be seen as a pretty compelling standalone experience.

Konami took the stage at TGS 2016 to introduce the first 15 minutes of gameplay footage for Metal Gear Survive, a spin-off of the main series that involves zombies, alternate dimensions, melee weapons, and co-op gameplay. Yes, this is a very different experience from what fans have come to expect from the franchise. Time will tell if it's an ultimately successful shift in gameplay. Check out the footage below:

Also attending TGS to promote his first post-Konami game, Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima nixed any lingering hopes that he might have helped develop Metal Gear Survive before his departure from Konami in 2015. "That's nothing to do with me!" Kojima said, according to a report on IGN.

"The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage," Kojima observed. "Where do zombies fit in with that?"

Yoji Shinkawa, the artist and designer who gave the Metal Gear games their distinctive look, added, "If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it."

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, Metal Gear Survive doesn't exactly have the seal of approval from its creator. What impact that'll have on its popularity remains to be seen; that Survive appears to lack Kojima's trademark oddness - and, yes, Shinkawa's giant mechs - may prove to be a bigger turn-off for the series' legion fans. You can take a look for yourself at Survive in action below.

Konami released a debut trailer for the game at Gamescom 2016. Watch it and try not to fall out of your chair:

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive.

The studio said of the game in a press release that Red Dead Redemption 2 is "an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."

Here's everything else we know:

Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date

Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive in Spring 2018. The game is coming to XBO and PS4. The game was originally set for a Fall 2017 release, but it was recently delayed.

"We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer," said Rockstar in a blog post.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Details

The studio said of the game in the press release that Red Dead Redemption 2 is "an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."

"With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. "We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we've learned making games."

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Version

The good news is that publisher Take-Two thinks very highly of the PC market. The bad news is that they don't sound like they're preparing to port Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC when it releases next year.

During a recent investor's call, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff stated that "The great news is that the PC market is vibrant for us. It’s a great market for us. It’s a big market. It’s a core market in consumers that are highly engaged. It’s a predominantly digital market, which also removes friction in terms of ongoing engagement with a consumer. So, for us, the PC market as a company is very important and very exciting and something we focus on."

That's the great news. The bad news is that Take-Two was directly asked about the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC and CEO Strauss Zelnick responded by stating: "Any updates about any of our titles will come from our labels."

That being the case, it's possible that Rockstar could decide to put the work in for a PC port, but it's doubtful that it will release alongside the game's console versions.

It's always great to see new franchises debut on the big stage of E3, and that's especially true when the game looks as good as Days Gone. The game comes from Syphon Filter developer Sony Bend.

The action-adventure game takes place in the Pacific Northwest and tells the story of a bounty hunter named Deacon St. John, who must survive on a planet that's been wiped of humanity after a global disaster brings about the end of the world as we know it. Now millions have been transformed into "Freakers," zombie-like creatures that would like nothing more than to feed on Deacon's corpse. As the bounty hunter, you'll have to fight massive hordes of Freakers in order to survive.

Here's everything else we know:

Days Gone Release Date

No release date has been set for Days Gone. It will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

Days Gone Trailer

The latest trailer for Days Gone expands upon our first look at the game by diving a bit deeper into the narrative that at the heart of this particular apocalypse. While Days Gone was initially compared to The Last of Us, this latest trailer actually suggests the game is spiritually closer to the Uncharted franchise. In any case, we're incredibly excited to see more of its blend of action, horror, survival, and story.

Check out the reveal trailer below:

This game definitely seems to have a The Last of Us post-apocalyptic vibe to it. The world showcased in the demo appears to be as beautiful as it is chaotic, while the main character's narration suggests that there will be a strong emphasis on the story of why it is that people choose to keep surviving in this cruel land.

What we know about God of War, including latest news, release date, trailers, and more!

Jan 4, 2018

God of War is back! The fourth installment in the hugely popular action-adventure game was revealed at Sony's E3 2016 press conference to confirm the rumors that had been going around for at least a week. This time, the game will take its settings and monsters from Norse mythology. Kratos also has a son, which is a pretty shocking development considering his actions in the first trilogy.

E3 2016's God of War reveal suggested that the game was going to be a fairly radical departure from what came before. The game's revamped combat system seems to have taken some cues from Dark Souls. There's also an altered presentation style which almost feels like a mythological take on the Naughty Dog style of storytelling.

Speaking of stories, God of War's continues to intrigue. It appears that Kratos' son is somehow cursed and it's up to dear old dad to guide him through a very beautiful and dangerous land in order to find a cure. Whatever the specifics, this latest game certainly has a much more intimate feel to it, even though the scope and brutality of the God of Warseries is clearly still intact.

Here's everything we know about this highly anticipated sequel:

God of War Release Date

God of War is coming in Early 2018. The game is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4.

God of War Trailers

A new trailer has arrived for God of War! Check it out below:

Here's the second trailer, which was released during E3 2017:

Here's your first look at the new adventure:

This exciting new preview showcases a world that initially seems quite far from the God of War we've known. Kratos (who is sporting an awesome beard, it must be said) is trekking through an incredible looking wooded area with a kid on a seemingly simple hunt. Things quickly revert back to the God of War we know and love, however, once Kratos is jumped by a few demons that learn that Kratos' axe is good for chopping more than firewood.

The entire situation really escalates once Kratos encounters a hulking beast that gives us a better look at the game's new perspective and combat style. Indeed, the game's camera perspective and speed appear to have taken a cue from titles like Dark Souls. The trailer and title suggest that this is a new beginning for Kratos and the series.

Regardless, this looks like an exciting entrant into the renowned franchise that we are eager to learn more about.

God of War Details

In an interview with EurogamerGod of War director Corey Balrog revealed that there are no camera cuts in God of War.

"The aspiration when I got back was to tell a much more personal story," said Balrog. "God of War is traditionally known for these cinematic, pull back cameras, which I think are fantastic. But trying to get in there and really get to know the character a little more, I realised it'd be interesting if we got closer.|

Balrog admitted that making a "one-shot" game presented some fairly unique challenges, but he ultimately feels that the innovations of this system are worth the headaches that go along with making it happen.

"For me it really comes down to when you experience something amazing, you go see the Grand Canyon or something like that, you don't have a crane camera behind you giving you a vista shot to make it look amazing," said Balrog. "That's a postcard. What you have is you, standing on the edge, looking around and just being in awe of what you're seeing. In games, I think we can do that."

Balrog also noted that many of the changes seen in God of War thus far can be attributed to the fact that many of the people working on the game have grown and they simply don't want to re-explore the same concepts. That said, he claims that there are core God of War aspects in the new title, but players will simply view them "through a different lens."

In an interview with the website LevelUp (which was translated by the GameTransfers crew), Barlog shared some of the first details of the upcoming title, including the announcement that God of War will be a single-player only game.

Though Barlog credits God of War: Ascension's multiplayer mode for its innovative take on the concept, he also noted that the mode lacked enough depth to become a staple piece for the franchise moving forward.

Speaking of the franchise moving forward, it does appear that this new God of War will, in fact, represent the start of a new series of games for Kratos. Though Barlog was short on details concerning these future titles (if there are actually any details to share at all at this point) he did note that we can expect to see more Kratos in the future.

On the subject of Kratos' son (which has become a big talking point ever since the game's trailer reveal), Barlog eased the concerns of some fans by insisting that the character will not have to be looked after in combat such as you may see in a traditional escort mission. While we're still unsure if the son will have a direct combat function or will instead be something of a secondary element such as the role Elizabeth played in Bioshock: Infinite, Barlog did note that the character is unaware of his father's previous exploits at the start of the game, which does help to clarify the timeline of this release in relation to the previous series.

What we know about The Last of Us 2, including latest news, release date, trailers, and more!

Jan 4, 2018

Yes, one of the greatest games of the previous console generation is getting a sequel. Fans hoped that Naughty Dog might find a way to return to the world of The Last of Us, but the nature of the original game's ending left some to speculate that the developers had said all there was to say about the adventure of Ellie and Joel.

It's not entirely clear exactly what the story will be this time around, but the ominous and fearful tone of Ellie's looming threats suggest that this will be a story of revenge. The recipient of said revenge seems to be fairly obvious based on context clues in the trailer, but in the interest of not completely outlining the ending of the original game, we will not speculate on their identity here.

Speculation is all we have as it concerns the release date for The Last of Us Part II, however. It appears that the game is still very much in development, which means you shouldn't hope to see if before late next year at the earliest. Neil Druckman, the title's creative director, took to the PlayStation Blog to clarify that the eventual release of the game could be "a ways off," and to assure fans that Naughty Dog is only making a sequel to this game because they feel they have a new story that is worth telling.

Well, we're sold. Here's everthing we know about The Last of Us Part II:

The Last of Us Part 2 Release Date

The Last of Us 2 doesn't have a release date as of yet. We suspect the game won't arrive for at least another year, as Naughty Dog only announced it at PSX 2016. It will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

The Last of Us Part 2 Trailer

A brand new trailer has arrived! Check it out below:

If you thought that the Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement was as good as big-name sequel reveals were going to get in 2016, then feast your eyes on the reveal trailer for The Last of Us Part II:

The Last of Us Part 2 Story

At PSX 2016, Naughty Dog director and writer Neil Druckmann shared the first bits of Last of Us Part 2 story details, including what the focus will be in the sequel. Druckmann revealed that Ellie is the star of this installment, and that the game takes place several years after the original. Ellie is 19-years-old in The Last of Us Part 2

Druckmann talked a bit about the tone and direction of the sequel's story, saying that while the original was a story about love, "[Part 2] is about hate." He also confirmed that this game will exclusively continue the story of Ellie and Joel instead of jumping to other characters.

It looks like The Last of Us Part 2 will have a couple of connections with Westworld. It's been revealed that Halley Gross, a writer on the show, will be co-writing the game's story with Neil Druckmann, who wrote the first game.

Additionally, Westword actress Shannon Woodward will have a role in the game. No details on her character were revealed. Her casting was revaled in a tweet:

It's also been revealed that Bruce Straley, who directed the first game, will not return for the sequel. Instead, Druckmann will be directing the game.

The Last of Us Part 2 Music

Writer/director Neil Druckmann confirmed that Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of The Last of Us' wonderful score, will also create the music for the sequel.

The Last of Us Part 2 Poster

In celebration of Outbreak Day - the day in The Last of Us when the world fell apart - Naughty Dog has released some promotional materials and free items related to the game. You can read a full breakdown of the announcement (which includes information regarding a new The Last of Us t-shirt and PS4 theme) via this PlayStation blog post

However, there is one Outbreak Day release we do have to highlight. The fine folks at Mondo have teamed up with Naughty Dog and artist Kevin Tong to release a new poster that seems to be related to The Last of Us Part 2. It's a fairly stunning design that serves as a callback to the previous Mondo The Last of Us poster and an effective teaser.

You can buy the poster from Mondo's website starting today.

What we know about Quake Champions, including latest news, release date, trailers, and much more!

NewsDen of Geek Staff
Jan 4, 2018

Quake Champions is the latest installment in the classic FPS series. This title appears to be a follow-up to the infamous Quake III: Arena as it attempts to revive the arena shooter genre that classic game helped to popularize. Bethesda is promising a pure Arena-style shooter experience with a special emphasis on interesting characters and creating an equal playing field for all levels of fraggers.

From the trailers released thus far, it is clear that this new Quake is focused on providing the same brand of lightning-fueled rapid chaos that made Arena one of the most popular games of its generation. While Bethesda's presentation suggests that the team will be taking cues from the open, character-driven style of Overwatch, gameplay footage showcases an arena battleground that is unmistakably worthy of the Quake name.

Here's everything else we know:

Quake Champions Release Date

Quake Champions doesn't have a release date as of yet.

Speaking with GameSpot, studio director Tim Willits revealed that id hasn't ruled out a console release for Quake Champions, which is currently only slated for PC. Said Willits, "It's a PC game. No excuses. No limitations. We're going to focus on one platform," but he added that he "love[s] [his] console fans. "We're not totally shutting the door on consoles."

Willits teased the game won't officially launch until after it's gone through a long beta period. Willits clarified, "It's going to come out after a really, really long closed beta. I'm telling people now, it's going to be a long beta."

Quake Champions Trailer

Bethesda revealed at E3 2017 that Wolfenstein protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz will join the Quake Champions' roster. The studio also announced that they plan to host a $1 million Quake World Championship tournament at QuakeCon starting on August 26th.

You can check out all the new footage from Quake Champions - including previews of some of the game's new maps - via the game's latest trailer:

Just in case you weren't convinced that Quake Champions will provide the same essential Quake multiplayer experience you know and love, Bethesda has released what they call a raw gameplay trailer which simply shows player footage from a match in progress. The speed is intoxicating.

Quake fans get to enjoy a double dosage of good news today as there is not only a gameplay trailer for Quake Champions out in the wild, but it includes an announcement that there will be a Quake Champions closed beta starting in the near future.

You can sign-up for the Quake Champions closed beta by going to the beta section of the Quake website. According to the official closed beta announcement, the beta is expected to begin in the "coming weeks." Furthermore, the full announcement reveals that there will be more Quake Champions trailers coming this week and confirms that those attending PAX East will be able to experience the game themselves at the Bethesda Booth.

As always, closed beta means that not everyone who signs up for access will actually be able to play the beta upon its release.

Quakecon finally gave us a look at Quake Champions in action and...well, let's just say that those fears that some had that Quake will somehow not retain the insanity of Quake IIIshould be put to rest by this gameplay trailer that showcases Champions' incredible speed, absurd weaponry, and loveable affection for ultraviolence. In any case, it might be our best look at the game for some time until the game enters closed beta in 2017.

Check it out:

Bethesda uploaded a video to their YouTube page in which Studio Director Tim Willits breaks down the design process of Quake Champions and explains how the game is both a classic Quake shooter and an attempt to modernize some of the title's trademark elements by incorporating some recent advancements in the genre. Of particular note are the heroes and skills he reveals that give us a better idea of how Quake Champions' characters will differ from one another.

Take a look:

Well, scratch one entry off of our E3 prediction list as Bethesda has just confirmed that Quake is making its long-awaited comeback.

It's called Quake Champions, and you can check out the game's first trailer below:

Quake Champions Details

Creative director Tim Willits has informed Polygon that Quake Champions will be a free-to-play game.

Well...kind of.

"At its core, it’s a free-to-play game,” says Willits "with the option to buy the Champion Pack and just get in and play with all the Champions. There are a number of Quake players that just want to play their Quake, right? And they are familiar with the business model of our previous games, and they are totally fine. ‘I want to buy the game. I want to start playing. I want to have access to all the Champions.’

What that means is that players who purchase the game will gain access to all of Quake Champions' characters while those free-to-play players will be able to use in-game currency to gain access to new Champions for a limited period of time. It's not clear how long you will be able to access purchased Champions via the latter method, but Willits did say that he doesn't want to use the word "rent" in regards to the nature of the transaction.

Players on both sides will have the chance to use in-game currency on other unlockables such as rune challenges and skins. Additionally, free-to-play and paid players will compete in the same brackets on the same maps using the same weapons. At this time, it appears the only potentially meaningful gameplay concept that requires currency are the characters themselves.

Everything you need to know about Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, including latest news, release date, and more!

NewsDen of Geek Staff
Jan 4, 2018

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is famed Castlevania director Koji Igarashi's return to the Metroidvania genre after his departure from Konami. The game was first announced through a Kickstarter campaign in 2015 that met its $500,000 goal within four hours and raised over $1 million in its first day.

“I have been gone for too long, and it’s time for a resurrection!” Igarashi said in the video introducing the Kickstarter. “Publishers of the world told me that gamers no longer care for this style of game, but I know they’re wrong!”

By the end of the campaign, Bloodstained had raised over $5.5 million, proving that fans were still hungry for this type of experience. Two years later, Bloodstained is still in development, but is inching closer to a 2018 release.

The game tells the story of Miriam, an orphan who has been cursed by an alchemist and is slowly turning into crystal. The young woman must fight her way through a castle full of demons and other creatures of the night to find a cure. The plot and setting are as Gothic as it gets, and the presentation and gameplay—the side-scrolling combat, creepy monsters, and role-playing elements—all harken back to the golden age of Metroidvania.

Here's everything else we know about the game:

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Release Date

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will arrive in 2018. It was originally set for a 2017 release before it was delayed. The game is currently scheduled to appear on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, Vita, and PC. A Wii U version of the game was recently canceled.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Trailer

It's been a little while since we last saw footage from Koji Igarashi's spiritual successor to the Castlevania series, but this latest gameplay trailer for Bloodstained makes up for the months of silence. This preview emphasizes the game's art style and combat techniques by showing off large portions of a cathedral stage and even offering us a glimpse of one of the game's boss fights.

Bloodstained's animation strikes us as a bit...odd, but the classic Castlevania combat is certainly in place and there's still plenty of time to smooth out rough edges before Bloodstained's 2018 release date.

Here's gameplay footage from the E3 2016 demo:

In the pitch video below - which is quite quaint, with its low-fi special effects - Igarashi talks enthusiastically about his project. On the Kickstarter page, you'll find more of the project's plans, including its addition of crafting to the platforming mix, and the now-confirmed presence of David Hayter as one of the main voice actors.

That Bloodstained has already enjoyed a storming amount of support pretty much guarantees that we'll be hearing more about it soon.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Details

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji Igarashi's spiritual successor to the Castlevania series, now has a publisher.

As revealed on the game's official Kickstarter campaign, developer Inti Creates has announced that Bloodstained will be published by 505 Games. The team even released a YouTube video to help celebrate this partnership as well as explain some of the specifics of the arrangement.

505 Games is an Italy-based publishing company that has previously published games such as Payday 2Sniper Elite IIIBrothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and Virginia. In 2015, they even won the Best Indie Games Label award at the MCV Awards.

This arrangement is a bit unexpected in a couple of ways. On developer Init Creates' end, it initially seems odd that they would seek a publisher considering that Bloodstained is one of the most well-funded Kickstarter projects of all-time ($5,545,991 raised off a $500,000 goal). For publisher 505 Games, it's strange that they have decided to publish this game when they noted earlier this year that they plan on focusing on game development rather than game publishing moving forward.

As the announcement video touches upon, however, this arrangement is mutually beneficial. For Inti Creates, it allows them to focus solely on the development of the game as well as expand their advertising reach. After all, we've seen what happens when Kickstarter devs try to do it all themselves. For 505 Games, it gives them the opportunity to publish a game that is already a pretty big hit in several key ways, which is far too tempting of a proposition to pass up regardless of the current company directive.

Igarashi also announced that acclaimed artist Ayami Kojima - whose work was a feature of the Castlevania games from 1998 onwards - will be returning to provide some cover art for Bloodstained. It should be pointed out, however, that the cover art will only appear as a bonus outer sleeve, which will be sent to backers who pledged $100 or more on Kickstarter.

Quite why Kojima's art can't be used on all the physical copies of the game isn't clear, though it could be due to some sort of prior agreement with another artist. But for the Castlevania series' dedicated legion of fans, Kojima's involvement is further sign that Bloodstained will be the rebirth they've been waiting for. If you're unaware of the artist's work, here's an example of her distinctive style:

You can read more about Kojima's involvement, plus a reveal of a few new Bloodstained monsters, in this Kickstarter update.

Everything we know about Cyberpunk 2077, including latest news, release date, trailers, and much more!

NewsDen of Geek Staff
Jan 4, 2018

Cyberpunk 2077 will be CD Projekt Red's first game outside The Witcher universe, and its first foray into science fiction. Based on the Cyberpunk series of tabletop games, it is, as its name suggests, inspired by the pioneers of the cyberpunk subgenre - namely William Gibson and Bruce Sterling. We can therefore expect plenty of cyborgs, AI, benighted cities, and scary corporations.

While Cyberpunk 2077's very different in setting from The Witcher, we'll see the same mature themes and unforgiving difficulty level in this new outing.

"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it."

Here's everything else we know about the game:

Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date

Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't have a release date at the moment. The game is coming to XBO, PS4, PC.

Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer

It's been three years since developer CD Projekt Red debuted the trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, and you'd have a hard time using what we've learned about the game in the meantime as breadcrumbs to trace your way back to that reveal. Considering that CD Projekt Red was still hard at work putting the finishing touches on The Witcher 3 during much of that time, many gamers didn't think much of their radio silence. Now that The Witcher 3 is well and truly done, however, some are starting to worry that the game isn't as far along as they may have hoped.

Here's the first teaser trailer from 2013:

Cyberpunk 2077 Details

Rumors have emerged which suggest that Cyberpunk 2077 might take place in a "living city" that functions on its own accord regardless of whether or not the player is actively involved in a certain area or not. The actions of this city will apparently be governed by a complex series of AI rules that will allow for developer CD Projekt Red to maintain the illusion of a truly dynamic world.

Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 may very well feature a complex multiplayer mode that involves the use of several technological tools and grants the developers have apparently applied for. When PC Gamer reached out to the developers for comment, they were told that CD Projekt Red have been applying for such tools but are not able to elaborate on their functionality at this time.

In a post on CD Projekt Red's forums, the developers not only assured fans that the game is still being worked on, but revealed a rather shocking figure concerning the resources they are pouring into it.

According to the forum post made by the development team, there are "more game developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 than on The Witcher 3 in its most intensive month." While the developer didn't reveal the exact number of developers currently working on the game, previously revealed figures regarding the development of The Witcher 3 suggest that the game was worked on by over 240 staff developers and over 1,500 people in general.

Interestingly enough, the careers page of CD Projekt Red's website suggests that they are still looking to fill somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 positions devoted exclusively to the development of Cyberpunk 2077.

While it's clear that the developer's work on the upcoming standalone Gwent game isn't hindering their focus as it concerns completing Cyberpunk 2077, there is a bit of bad news that accompanies this information. We still don't know exactly when Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be released, and its absence from E3 2017 suggests that it's not likely to debut until sometime after next year's show.

Either way, it's still very likely that you've got enough uncompleted side missions in The Witcher 3 to keep you occupied until the game debuts.

Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger. We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”

Following a statement by developer CD Projekt Red regarding Cyberpunk's online elements and their "games as a service" approach, the studio has stepped forward to clarify that they do not currently intend to add microtransactions to the game.

"Worry not," reads a post on the studio's Twitter account. "When thinking CP2077, think nothing less than TW3 [The Witcher 3] — huge single player, open world, story-driven RPG. No hidden catch, you get what you pay for — no bullshit, just honest gaming like with Wild Hunt. We leave greed to others."

It's still unclear what the games as service comment applies to, but it could just be a comment related to the possibility that Cyberpunk may feature expanded online modes. That makes sense given that the game is based on modern and futuristic technology as opposed to The Witcher 3's fantasy setting.

Everything you need to know about Pikmin 4, including latest news, release date, and much more!

Jan 4, 2018

Nintendo's legendary game developer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 4 was in development back in 2015, but we've not yet seen much of the game or know when it's coming out.

"I've been told not to share anything about this from PR," Miyamoto told Eurogamer at E3 2017 regarding the status of Pikmin 4, "but I can tell you it is progressing."

Miyamoto appeased the PR gods by limiting the specifics of the game's development to his assurance that the game is "actually very close to completion" and that "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."

Nintendo confirmed Miyamoto's assertions in a separate statement by claiming that "Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."

It's been a few years since Pikmin 3 released for Wii U in 2013. The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews for its innovative use of the Wii U tablet and general advancement of the Pikmin mechanics. By all accounts, Pikmin 3 also sold extremely well with some reports suggesting that it sold over 200,000 units before the end of 2013.

The lack of a Pikmin sequel in all that time seems to speak more to Nintendo's unique release strategy than it does their faith in the franchise as a whole. Now that the Nintendo Switch is selling extremely well, it seems that Nintendo is a touch more eager to bring back some of their most popular series as well as re-introduce some of the Wii U's best games to the switch audience.

Here's everything else we know:

Pikmin 4 Release Date

Pikmin 4 doesn't have a release date as of yet. The game is coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Pikmin 4 Details

Some suspected that Shigeru Miyamoto had finally lost his mind when he announced that he was working on a strategy game based on his gardening experiences, but it wasn't long before the quirky little title known as Pikmin became a beloved Nintendo franchise. As popular as the franchise is, though, it has remained suspiciously off the radar since Pikmin 3 released to wide acclaim in 2013. Aside from Miyamoto mentioning that Pikmin 4was nearing completion in 2015, fans have been left to speculate when, exactly, they will be able to get their hands on this anticipated sequel.

Sadly, Miyamoto's latest update doesn't offer much hope that they can expect that day to come anytime soon.

In an interview with Game Rant, Miyamoto had this to say on the subject of Pikmin 4:

"We're working on (Pikmin 4). So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”

While Miyamoto does not explicitly say so during the course of the interview, given that he had previously suggested that the game was nearing completion around this time last year, it certainly does sound like Pikmin 4 has been delayed. Though this may be due to the usual complications that can arise during the development process, the popular theory at the moment is that Pikmin 4 has been shuffled to the side while Nintendo focuses on the release of the Switch as well as their ever-expanding list of new ventures.

Given that Breath of the Wild is shaping up to be the last major Wii U release, it certainly does appear that Pikmin 4 may end up becoming a Switch title. It would be a bit of a shame if that came to pass considering how well the Pikmin games translate to the Wii U controller, but it's looking like Pikmin fans may be waiting until 2017 to experience more of this franchise's bizarre adventures.

Jan 4, 2018

System Shock 3 is officially a go as OtherSide Entertainment has revealed that development has begun on this highly-anticipated sequel.

Even better, OtherSide Entertainment confirmed that Warren Spector (producer of the original System Shock, creator of Deus Ex, and all-around gaming genius) will be leading System Shock 3's development team. That team also includes tech director Jason Hughes (Wing Commander and Epic Mickey), design director Sheldon Pacotti (lead writer of the first two Deus Ex games), art director Arturo Pulecio (Dark Age of CamelotEpic MickeyDungeons and Dragons Online), and a host of developers who worked on the original System Shock that include Creative Director Paul Neurathm and Lead Designer Tim Stellmach.

To put it another way, OtherSide Entertainment has assembled a bonafide all-star team of gaming experts and series veterans to go to work on a sequel that is, roughly, 17 years in the making.

Sadly, we know painfully little about this game, which would seem to indicate that it has a long development cycle ahead of it. Warren Spector recently noted that his first goal in the development of System Shock 3 was to make sure that he assembled the right team that could get the job done, and now that he has most certainly done that, it appears that the coding, designing, and all that other video game development stuff is about to get underway.

Really, the only in-game detail anyone knows with certainty is that evil A.I. Shodan is going to return to the game, as will her voice actress Terri Brosius.

Now that BioShock is well and truly dead, System Shock 3 is primed to reclaim the first-person action adventure RPG genre that it helped create so many years ago. Also, don't forget that Nightdive Studios is also working on a very promising remake of the original System Shock, which has successfully completed its crowd-funding campaign and should be finished soon.

Here's everything else we know about the game:

When System Shock first released in 1994, it was something of a revelation for the first-person shooter genre. While many gamers and developers were still trying to wrap their heads around the innovations of Doom, developer Looking Glass delivered an atmospheric sci-fi masterpiece that was in many ways a precursor to titles like Half-Life and Deus Ex. What's arguably most impressive about the game, however, is just how well it's concept has aged all these years later.

The fact was not lost on Nightdive Studios, the developer in charge of remaking this sci-fi horror classic for a new generation. If you've never heard of Nightdive, don't feel too bad. The developer's first major move in the game industry was recovering the rights to the System Shock franchise and using them to put the series back into digital distribution stores. In fact, despite a wealth of veteran development talent on staff, they've primarily focused on reviving classic PC experiences since their formation in 2012.

You wouldn't know that this is a relatively unproven development studio, however, by looking at how well this remake is coming together. Even the words on the Kickstarter page convey their deep love and understanding of what makes this game so special. This is clearly a company that understands why System Shock has remained so popular over the years and wish to upgrade the game just enough for a new generation of gamers to be able to easily enjoy it.

Fortunately, you don't just have to take their word on the matter of restoring System Shock to glory as Nightdive has also seen fit to release a short demo of the upcoming remake available on SteamGOG and the Humble Store. It is, in a word, incredible. Although System Shock has been the beneficiary of a great number of mods over the years designed to improve its mechanics and visuals, even a full suite of the best mods couldn't possibly match what Nightdive has done in terms of modernizing this title without sacrificing the core gameplay.

Here's everything else we know about the System Shock remake:

System Shock Remake Release Date

System Shock has been delayed from its original 2017 release date, according to Nightdive Studio's latest update to the game's Kickstarter page

The project's latest blog post now references "Q2 2018" as the suggested release window. There's no specific reason given for the delay other than a vague reference to the current development cycle that implies the project is just taking a little longer than previously thought. Additionally, Nightdive Studios has indicated that it intends to release the game across all systems on the same date, but that they are not able to commit to that release strategy at this time.

The game is coming to XBO, PS4, and PC.

System Shock Remake Trailer

Nightdive has released a new video that goes over some of the areas in the game as well as the dismemberment mechanics in the remake. The game is still very much a work in progress, so none of the footage below is finalized:

It looks like PlayStation 4 gamers will also be able to enjoy this incredible looking System Shock remake as developer Nightdive Studios has confirmed that they are now working on a PS4 version.

The announcement was posted to the game's Kickstarter page and informed System Shock fans that the "highly likely" possibility that System Shock would be coming to PS4 has been updated to a definite. The blog also notes that the development team simply could not ignore the demand for this version and decided to work out a deal for it to happen that did not require a stretch goal.

Quantic Dream's new game is Detroit: Become Human. The developer behind Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain returns with a tale about artifical intelligence, as three androids living very different lives struggle to survive in a world that doesn't really want them.

Here's everything we know about the game:

Detroit: Become Human Release Date

Detroit: Become Human arrives in 2018. The game is coming exclusively to PS4.

Detroit: Become Human Trailer

A new trailer for Detroit: Become Human premiered at the Paris Game Show 2017. Check it out below:

Detroit: Become Human's E3 2017 trailer was an extended cinematic preview of the game's story that bordered on a short film. Despite the massive influx of footage it contained, we still really don't know what the gameplay will be like. What we do know is that the game's story will focus on a Blade Runner-type universe where androids are used for servitude and a few decide to rebel against the system. The concept certainly looks interesting, but we're eager to see more of how these concepts will actually be tied together by gameplay.

The game's E3 2016 trailer showcased a cinematic experience loaded with the type of decision-based narrative moments that Quantic Dreams is famous for:

Detroit is based on a 2012 tech demo called "Kara," which is a personal favorite of ours. It's the story of an android who wants to live as a human.

Here's the original tech demo:

Right?

Well, Detroitis the continuation of this story. What happens when Kara leaves the factory and enters the real world? You'll soon find out. Interestingly enough, Detroit is described as an "Android City" in the first trailer for the game. Check it out:

The game will tackle themes of artificial intelligence, including the rights of machines and whether they should be treated as servants to mankind. I think someone has been reading Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics again...

What you need to know about Insomniac's Spider-Man game, including latest news, release date, trailers, and more!

Jan 4, 2018

Insomniac's take on Spider-Man isn't just one of the PS4's biggest upcoming exclusive, it's one of the biggest titles in Marvel's new approach to game releases. Spider-Man will not be directly associated with the MCU or a particular film, but will instead tell a unique story of the studio's design.

Spider-Man will focus on young Peter Parker's battles against a still unconfirmed roster of classic comic book villains. As this game seems to take place relatively early into his superhero career, Parker will need to learn how to balance being the hero that NYC needs with the daily pressure's of young adult life.

Here's the latest from Spider-Man:

Spider-Man Release Date

Spider-Man will be out in 2018. The game is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4.

Spider-Man Trailer

Insomniac and Sony debuted the latest trailer for Spider-Man at the Paris Games show. This preview focuses on Peter Parker's role in the story and expands the game's little mythology twists more than previous previews have done.

Another arrived for Insomniac's Spider-Man game at D23 2017. Check it out below:

While we never doubted Insomniac's ability to do something special with the Spider-Man series, the first gameplay trailer for their Spider-Man title goes a long way to assuring us that they really understand what makes this character so special.

While there are aspects of the Arkham series in this Spider-Man game, the seamless web-slinging travel and breathtaking large-scale action sequences really help Spider-Man stand out as one of the best games shown at E3 2017.

In what must be considered a piece of dream casting in the gaming world, Insomniac Games (developers of Ratchet and Clank and Sunset Overdrive) are going to be helming the next Spider-Man game. Announced at the Sony E3 2016 conference, the game looks to stay true to the comics all the way down to Peter Parker's witty banter.

Crackdown 3 is one of the Xbox One's big upcoming flagship titles. It's a game many fans of the original didn't think would happen after the tepid response and sales of Crackdown 2. But Microsoft Studios surprised everyone at E3 2014 by announcing that a third game was in development.

It's been a long time since that announcement. Several delays later, we're still waiting to hear about a solid release date for this action-adventure game that boasts fully destructible environments and tons of explosions.

Here's everything else we know:

Crackdown 3 Release Date

Crackdown 3 has been delayed and will arrive sometime in the spring of 2018.

The game is coming to XBO and PC, and will be part of the Play Anywhere program, which allow players to buy one copy of the game for both Xbox One and Windows 10 play.

Crackdown 3 Trailer

Here's the E3 2017 trailer for Crackdown 3:

At Gamescom 2015, Microsoft unveiled the first gameplay footage of the game, showing us that the franchise hasn't changed too much. The same arcade-y feel of the original is still very much a part of this installment.

Of note is the destructible environments. Crackdown 3 is boasting more chaos and destruction than we've ever seen in a game. Perhaps only Battlefield can't top the explosions we just saw on the Gamescom stage.

Check out the trailer:

IGN also posted 17 minutes of gameplay onto their YouTube channel. The footage has some commentary from Crackdown creator Dave Jones. Here it is:

Sea of Thieves is legendary developer Rare's first game since its ill-fated Kinect era. Surprisingly, Rare's not returning to the 3D platformer genre it helped usher in during the Nintendo 64 era. Nor is Sea of Thieves anywhere close to Rare's shooter titles. Instead, the studio's new game is a pirate adventure game where players command a ship, fight enemies, and look for treasure.

Here's everything we know about the game:

Sea of Thieves Release Date

Sea of Thieves will arrive on March 20, 2018. Microsoft confirmed that it will be part of their new Play Anywhere program, which features crossplay on both Xbox One and PC.

Sea of Thieves Trailer

A new trailer premiered at The Game Awards 2017! Check it out below:

Here's the E3 2017 gameplay trailer for Sea of Thieves!

It's been all quiet on the stormy shores as it relates to Sea of Thieves updates in recent weeks, but this developer gameplay video offers us a fresh look at Rare's most exciting game in years.

The focus of this video is on the game's cooperative elements and the way that players will need to work together in order to effectively run their pirate ship. It's clear from the video that an incredible amount of cooperation is necessary for players to make it far in the game, especially as it relates to ship-to-ship battles which seem to demand that crew members play multiple roles at once.

Rare released another dev diary all about the co-op mechanics of Sea of Thieves. There's a great discussion between the two designers regarding how the players will have to work together to navigate their ship through the world map. Check it out below:

Check out 14 minutes of gameplay footage below:

Rare took the stage at Microsoft’s E3 2016 presentation to unveil the debut gameplay footage of their upcoming swashbuckling adventure, Sea of Thieves. The trailer is comprised of real gameplay taken from three teams of fans who were invited to Rare’s studio to play the multiplayer first-person game for the first time.

The gameplay trailer showcases sailing pirate ships across colorful seas, jumping off the plank and exploring uncharted islands, and engaging in high-octane battles with enemy pirates on the open water.

Nintendo's Miiverse Has Been Archived by Fans

Millions of drawings, posts, and profiles have been preserved.

NewsMatthew Byrd
Jan 4, 2018

Nintendo's weird, kind of wonderful, and largely defunct social experiment known as Miiverse has been archived by a group of fans not ready to see it go.

A group of online archivists known as Archive Team reportedly began working on preserving the Miiverse shortly after Nintendo announced that they were shutting it down. While there was really no sense in preserving the social functionality of Miiverse, its closure also meant the loss of over 130 million posts, over 70 million drawings, over 70 million screenshots, and much more.

Not wanting these user contributions to be lost to time, Archive Team managed to scrape the Miiverse and come away with about 17 terabytes of preserved data. The result of their efforts is the searchable online archive known as the Archiverse

Get a Free Trial of GameFly on Us!

Now, Archive Team openly admit that they weren't able to save every piece of information from the Miiverse and are also unsure of just how much information they weren't able to collect. They attribute some of the missing information to the wave of contributions that followed Nintendo's shutdown announcement as well as a history of deleted posts.

While it's unlikely that Archiverse will ever be complete without contributions from Nintendo, it's hard to deny how impressive the team's efforts have been thus far. The Miiverse was home to a number of Nintendo fans who used the social system as an extension of their love for Nintendo. While Nintendo didn't always utilize the Miiverse as well as they could have, the system's users contributed quite a bit of memorable media over the years.

The subject of online preservation - especially as it relates to gaming - has been a hotly contested topic over the years. People simply don't want their contributions and the contributions of others to disappear because there is no system in place to preserve them. That's good enough reason to thank Archive Team even if you never used the Miiverse.

Everything we know about Kingdom Hearts 3, including latest news, release date, trailers, and much more!

NewsMatthew Byrd
Jan 4, 2018

The highly anticipated third installment in the main Kingdom Hearts series has been in development since at least 2012. First announced at E3 2013, it's been a long journey for this Disney-Final Fantasy mashup. There's indication from Square Enix that Kingdom Hearts III will finally see the light of day in 2018, but only time will tell!

Here's everything we know about the game:

Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Date

Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released sometime in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

If you've been wondering who to blame for Kingdom Hearts 3's prolonged development cycle, Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura wants you to know that you should probably start with the executives at Square Enix.

"A lot of people have been mentioning and making it sound like ‘Oh, Nomura’s taking too much time,’” said Nomura in a surprisingly candidate interview with Gamespot. “There was a decision made to change to an external [engine]...Unreal Engine 4... So we switched over to that. Unfortunately, there was a bit of time that needed to be rewinded and started over. So there was a bit of a setback there, but it was a decision that the company had to make, so it was inevitable.”

Nomura also stated that Square Enix initially approved his requests for a certain number of staff members to work on the game, but that there were numerous delays in getting the game's development team up to full strength as other projects in the company took priority.

Just to remove any doubt about his role in the game's delays, Nomura went on to say, "I wanted to emphasize that it wasn’t a problem on our development teams. It just happened that way, and there were some decisions that the company had to make, and it just didn’t work out for certain timings that we were hoping to hit. It’s kind of out of my hands. I mean, yes, time has passed. But it’s out of my hands.”

Kingdom Hearts 3 Trailer

At the D3 Expo, it was confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released sometime in 2018. There's still no word on an exact release date, but this does put an end to the thin hopes that the game might be out before the end of the year.

Additionally, Disney showed off a brand new trailer for the upcoming sequel that confirms a world based on the Toy Story films will make an appearance sometime during Kingdom Hearts 3's campaign. Characters like Woody and Buzz will also make an appearance as party heroes during your time in this new world.

Square Enix has dropped a brand new trailer for the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3. Check it out below:

Jump Festa 2016 brought us the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3. Much like the game's reveal trailer, the focus of this preview is on Kingdom Hearts 3's combat. Unlike the game's reveal trailer, this latest footage gives us a better feel for how combat in the game will flow from initiation to conclusion. It even includes a brief hint at some exciting special abilities as well as how your surroundings will impact the flow of the battle.

The Square Enix presentation at E3 2015 revealed a new gameplay trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3. The trailer teases Rapunzel’s tower from Tangled and what looks like the streets of New Orleans from The Princess and the Frog. Check out the trailer below:

Here's the very first trailer from E3 2013:

Kingdom Hearts 3 Screenshots

It's been a long time since we saw anything concrete from the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3. At Magic Monaco 2017, Square Enix revealed a new screenshot from the game that's far from enough to satisfy our curiosity, but it's at least something. Check it out below:

2005's Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Just Received a New Multiplayer Update

That's nice, but who is updating this game?

NewsMatthew Byrd
Jan 4, 2018

Whoever is responsible for saving 2005's Star Wars: Battlefront 2's multiplayer mode has recently released a patch for the game designed to improve certain performance issues.

According to notes posted on the Steam Community page, this patch is designed to improve lobby functionality, properly incorporate Steam names, improve general performance through better ping calculations. Unfortunately, these patch notes make no reference to who is actually going to all this trouble. Fortunately, they should make the resurrected game much more playable than it previously was.

In case you missed the original news, online multiplayer was restored to 2005's Star Wars: Battlefront 2 about three months ago. Previously, all multiplayer servers for the popular online shooter were shut down in 2014 as part of GameSpy's closure. That is until a post appeared yesterday on the game's Steam forums which claims that the game's online multiplayer modes have been resurrected.

"Star Wars fans rejoice!"reads the post from a user named Disney (it may or may not be Disney). "Multiplayer support has returned for Battlefront II. Now you can draft your friends to the 501st legion and join up to 64 other players in a heated online battle for control of the galaxy."

The timing of this update seems far from coincidental. With EA preparing to release the second installment of their revived Battlefront series  - the game's open beta begins this weekend - it seems that someone has taken it upon themselves to restore the original Battlefront 2 to its former glory.

It's still unknown who really took the initiative to ressurect the game's online multiplayer. It's possible that this is a fan update, but the scope of such a revival suggests that someone official may have indeed restored the game's functionality incognito. They even ensured the game's cross-play functionality with Good Old Games works meaning that those who own the title on either Steam or GOG can play the game together.

This is one of those few times that we'll gladly overlook the details in favor of focusing on the results. For those that never played it, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is considered to be one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Many may tell you that it's incredible mix of hero powers, ground combat, and space battles makes it the definitive Star Wars online mmultiplayer shooter experience.

By many, of course, we mean us. We'd tell you that. We'd also advise that you purchase and play this game as soon as possible as it has aged remarkably well in all the ways that matter.

What we know about Far Cry 5, including latest news, release date, trailers, and much more!

NewsMatthew Byrd
Jan 4, 2018

The latest entry into the Far Cry franchise figures to include all of the mini-missions, base destruction, and open-world exploration that we've come to expect from the game's most recent titles, but this Far Cry breaks the mold just a bit by moving players from a harsh jungle setting to the heart of rural America.

In Far Cry 5, you will be tasked with liberating a small town from the opression of a cult that has coerced the populace through fear and intimidation. Doing so will require you to seek the help of a small band of local rebels who share your goal.

Here's the latest from Far Cry 5:

Far Cry 5 Release Date

Far Cry 5 has been delayed to March 27, 2018 from an original release date of Feb. 27. The game is coming for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. PlayStation 4 users will receive a free in-game skin pack upon purchase.

Far Cry 5 Trailer

This Far Cry 5 trailer focuses on the game's co-op options by detailing the many ways you and your friends will be able to destroy the game's small-town cultists. Hint: many of them involve rather large guns.

E3 2017 didn't bring us quite as much information about Far Cry 5 as we thought it might, but these two new trailers for the game do expand upon the game's unique look at the modern world. We also get a brief look at a cinematic mock-up of the title's gameplay which seems to suggest that the latest Far Cry may place a greater emphasis on squad-based objective completion and combat.

Along with Far Cry's first official trailer, Ubisoft is releasing a few character trailers that highlight some of the prominent members of the game's resistance movement. Get to know bar owner Mary May, Pastor Jerome Jeffries, and pilot Nick Rye courtesy of these new previews:

The official trailer for Far Cry 5 seemingly confirms many things we already new about the game. It takes place somewhere in the Montana countryside, it sees you combat a radical religious leader and his congregation, and it will feature plenty of open-world action. It also serves to get us very, very excited about the next installment in the Far Cry series.

Far Cry 5 Story

Far Cry 5 will cast players into the role of a junior deputy in Hope County, Montana. Somewhere along the way, this young deputy will cross paths with the local doomsday religious cult known as Project at Eden's Gate. It seems that it will be up to you to bring together local members of the growing resistance movement and fight back with the help of various vehicles and weapons.

You'll also be able to hire special activist groups in order to help you along the way. It's not entirely clear how these groups will affect the overall gameplay beyond assisting you in combat, but we do know that Far Cry 5 will feature a co-op option and will revive Far Cry 3's map editor program.

Far Cry 5 Details

The latest artwork for Far Cry 5 continues the series recent tradition of enigmatic villains by introducing us to the leader of a Montana cult and his followers.

The imagery here implies that the group has some kind of Christian orientation, but what we do know is that there certainly seems to be some religious aspect to these new villains.

Look beyond the social commentary, however, and you may find that the most interesting thing about this image is that it features what appears to be multiple villains rather than just a lone evil figure. Could it be possible that Ubisoft will implement some kind of lieutenant structure by divvying up their new open world into controlled regions?

Specifics aside, Far Cry 5's design continues to intrigue with its mix of modern ideas and old worlds.

Call of Cthulhuis a new detective game that takes place in the grotesque world of H.P. Lovecraft, the master of cosmic horror. Strange creatures from beyond our plane of existence, gruesome murders, and an evil cult make up the meat of this yarn, which might very well be the best game based on the Lovecraftian mythos.

Here's everything we know about the game:

Call of Cthulhu Release Date

There is currently no set release date for Call of Cthulhu, but it is expected to release in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.

Call of Cthulhu Trailer

Call of Cthulhu is bringing H.P. Lovecraft's famous mythos to consoles and Cyanide Studio's released a new trailer at E3 2017. Check it out below:

We're still waiting for more details regarding the upcoming Call of Cthulhu game's actual gameplay, but in the meantime, we'll gladly take more of these spooky trailers. Here's another preview - titled Depths of Madness - gives us a brief glimpse at protagonist Edward Blake's descent into Lovecraftian madness.

Though the dark cosmic entity known as Cthulhu has made quite a few appearances in video games over the years, few titles have attempted to really capture the Lovecraftian horror atmosphere that typically accompanies the tentacled wonder's exploits. In fact, the last game that was able to really successfully convey the horrific elements of this character's world was 2005's Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

The upcoming Call of Cthulhu game may not share a direct lineage with Dark Corners of the Earth but, if its first trailer is any indication, this project most certainly shares that title's love for a good gothic atmosphere.

Call of Cthulhu comes to us courtesy of developer Cyanide Studio, who you may know from their work on the Blood Bowl series. Though the studio has never developed a pure horror game before, you would never know it based on Call of Cthulhu's trailer, which shows private investigator Edward Pierce navigating the terrifying island known as Darkwater in order to investigate a mysterious string of deaths.

The shadowy corners and whispers of evil showcased in this trailer certainly echo the infamous atmosphere of the Cthulhu series, and we are eager to see more of what developer Cyanide has in store for this fabled franchise as Call of Cthulu nears its 2017 release date.

Call of Cthulhu Story

Here's the official synopsis:

Plunge into the troubled mind of private investigator Edward Pierce, as his perception of reality becomes more and more skewed the closer he gets to the Great Dreamer’s sphere of influence. Clutch to your withering sanity to discover the conspiracies, the cultists and otherworldly terrors that inhabit the twisted universe imagined by Lovecraft… it is said that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

Sent to Darkwater Island to uncover the truth behind a mysterious death of a family, your original assignment spirals out of control against a backdrop of suspicious locals, mutilated whales, and disappearing bodies. Pierce’s mind will suffer - balancing a razor-thin line between sanity and madness, your senses will be disrupted until you question the reality of everything around you. Trust no one. Creeping shadows hide lurking figures… and all the while, the Great Dreamer prepares for his awakening.
