There's no denying that Nintendo's latest console, the Wii U, has little to no interest amongst the gaming community. Now, Nintendo's numbers are, unfortunately for them, backing up the claim.
Nintendo has sold only 160,000 units worldwide in the past three months, with software sales of just 1.3 million units.
90,000 Wii Us were sold in Japan, 60,000 in the US, and only 10,000 in Europe and Australia, combined. In the previous quarter, Wii U only sold 360,000 units and 13.42 million games.
Ouch.
Nintendo is citing a serious lack of first-party releases for the poor performance. Sorry, Nintendo, it's much more than that. Not only are there hardly any games for the console, your console is too expensive for the offerings. At $360, you're getting roughly 50 currently released games, many of which are already available on Xbox 360 and/or PS3.
Worst of all, Nintendo has an expensive looking tablet-looking thing to use with the video game console that is mostly geared towards kids (are there even any Mature rated games on the console)? And, what if they continually drop it or break it somehow?
No game announcement will warrant the price tag. And, the company clearly can't explain what exactly the console is. Unless Nintendo comes back with a serious price drop for the Wii U (I would suggest $250 at this point), then it is likely that the Wii U will continue to fail.
It also doesn't help that the Wii U won't be getting the multiplayer component for Batman: Arkham Origins.
