You know that game that keeps murdering you over and over? Yes, that's right, the one where you half to find that dragon 50-100 times in order to finish the game.
Dark Souls 2 is built on its gameplay. The series focuses on being an awesome and extremely challenging dungeon crawler before everything else. It's storytelling is quite minimal -- your surroundings tell the stories and build the lore of Drangleic, the kingdom where the events of the game take place.
From Software uses the smallest thread of story to keep things coherent, but in the end, the experience is not about why you have to beat all these damn demon queens. It's about how to beat them.
Still, the lore is gorgeous and you should learn as much as you can about it as you play through the game.
