Microsoft came out guns blazing at Gamescom, determined to fight the good fight against its rival...
It was the news of a previously multi-platform title, and a big one at that, going exclusive to the Xbox One that got many people's attention at this year's Gamescom. With quite an impact, Microsoft announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive to Xbox One. That's quite a coup for Microsoft, and as many have already said, it'll be interesting to see how Lara and Nathan Drake now face-off in the battle of the action adventure blockbuster.
With Lara Croft leading Microsoft's charge, other announcements further bolstered the Xbox One's ever continuing fight to rise from its woeful beginnings. In particular, the intriguing Quantum Breakgot a new demonstration, this time actual gameplay, and we got some information from 343 about Halo 5: Guardians' multiplayer, as well as a look at the Halo Channel and reworked retro maps in The Master Chief Collection.
As well as big-hitting triple-A releases, it was also revealed that the indie hit, Goat Simulator would make its console debut on the Xbox One, as well as new exclusive IP, ScreamRide.
As for the hardware, Microsoft unveiled a new, 1TB Call of Duty-branded Xbox One, and announced that soon players will be able to pre-load games onto the system. A special white edition of the console was also shown, tied in with upcoming third person shooter, Sunset Overdrive.
It was another big step in the right direction, following on from its success at E3, and although Sony has big victories like DayZ and exclusive content for the likes of Destinyand Far Cry 4, Tomb Raider will surely offset any envy Xbox Owners might find themselves experiencing.
