In a new interview, developer Remedy has revealed that a sequel to Alan Wake is still a "possibility"...

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Finland's Remedy Entertainment has created some great games in its time, including the first two Max Payne games and the 2010 survival horror, Alan Wake.

Remedy's now working on Quantum Break, its third-person shooter for the Xbox One which also marries up to a live-action TV series. After that, the studio's creative director Sam Lake has revealed to Polygon, Remedy could be starting work on a sequel to Alan Wake.

“We are in a place where we are starting to look into the future and starting to have discussions about what is next,” Lake said. “Among other things, we are discussing the possibility of an Alan Wakesequel with multiple partners, but nothing has been decided. I would love to do that. It feels that time has only refined the ideas of what the sequel would be, which is great. It’s almost, in some ways and on some level, that all of this extra time to think it about it has made it tastier and more exciting.”

Right after Alan Wake's launch in 2010, Remedy started work on a prototype for Alan Wake 2, which would have introduced new enemies and a play mechanic where its hero could alter the world around him. The project got far enough along for Remedy to create several prototypes - you can see a video of one in Polygon's article.

For one reason or another, Alan Wake 2 was placed aside, with some of the ideas and characters from the prototype worked into the download-only Alan Wake's American Nightmare, released in 2012. What began as Alan Wake 2 then evolved into Quantum Break, which Remedy's now completing in partnership with its publisher, Microsoft.

With Quantum Break now scheduled for 2016 following a couple of lengthy delays, Remedy will be free to decide what it starts working on next. While Lake says that "Nothing has been decided," the very fact that the studio's talking publically about a sequel implies that they're testing the waters - and drumming up support - for a new Alan Wake adventure.

More on this as we get it.
